Definitely a throwback kind of vibe. Shades of The Drifters.

Nice Nyro-style composition and production. I read that Walter turned Fagen on to Nyro while they were hanging out in NYC before the move to the West Coast. Eli and the 13th Confession, I think was the record Walter first played for Donald. No record quite like it, before or since...

@@chrisplanas7021 Mahalos! You, and the band's music have stayed with me, and kept my mood RIGHT for decades. That, I imagine, should give you some satisfaction about using your powers only for good. Please kokua and post more! Also..., I have been trying hard (years!!) to replace my chewed up 1st cassette - 'Pagan Babies', with Surfing in Tunisia, The Rose has a Thorn, Vertical Jerk, Shark Infested Waters, etc. Any hope for a hook-up / solution? I am in the cultural Wasteland of the East Coast, now (Maryland). Got back to Sand-Land last June and finally showed my family my heart's home, and long-lost life from the 60's->90's. Aloha.

This was my favourite vocal performance of any song for about four years when I was a musician in the eighties and nineties. Thanks so much for this. I still find the mixture of love and depressive eloquence so profound.

I fell in love to this. Rickie Lee Jones was an angel to me. And this song changed my view about what singing is.
