Gigi D’Agostinos bekanntes »L’amour toujours« aus dem Jahr 1999 ähnelt Sibelius Stück von 1902 auffällig. Zufall oder Absicht?

The plane in the photo is an american Navy Hellcat, crashing while landing in a aircraft carrier... the net has plenty photos of soviet planes from WWII, it would not be very hard to ilustrate this patriotic opera about a real russian pilot with a soviet plane...

I bought the Hickox 2/6 Symphonies CD after seeing Dave Hurwitz's Utube video on "Best Symphonies No. 6" and am so glad I have discovered this composer!! I had heard the name but not the music. More purchases coming up, I think. 🙂Wonderful stuff!!

I heard this work 10 years ago and fell in love with it instantly. My orchestra, the Scarborough Symphony Orchestra will be performing it alongside Britten's Four Sea Interludes, Debussy's Danse, Tarentelle Stryrienne and Shostakovich violin concerto no. 1. Join us in Scarborough, UK, May 2026.

This is REALLY good, Mr Bax. What an underrated composer! Thank you Bryden Thompson and the LPO. Bax shouldn't be virtually unknown, surely.

One of my first Glazunov selections that I recorded on tape back in 1982. Have been playing it every now and then. Great music similar to Tchaikovsky.

I won't claim it's great music, but it's interesting to hear. I'd rather hear this in concert for the novelty than the 5th, whose greatness I don't dispute but was spoiled for me by too many youth orchestra go-rounds back in the day.

Such a wonderful work and the second movement is unforgettable - beautiful, deeply felt and elegiac, although it's difficult to pinpoint just why it feels so sad. Rubbra on good form is unbeatable and this is one of his best works.

Langgard is, shamedfully, little known outside Denmark. I heard his Fourth Symphony many years ago on an afternoon concert on the BBC's Radio 3 channel (classical music and drama) and was gripped by it instantly. This is a fine performance of it!
