James Anthony Froude, the younger brother of Tractarian Hurrell Froude, recalled that an Oxford professor of astronomy had said to him, "The obligation of a Tractarian to go to Rome was in ratio of his intellectual obtuseness. If he was clever enough to believe two contradictory propositions at the same time, he might stay in the Church of England; if his capacity for reconciliation was not so good, he should go."

A personal favourite beautifully performed but please use better microphones and microphone placements to fully capture the sound of the organ filling the church 🙏

I don’t know, hearing it this way seems to miss the delicacy and introspection, which paradoxically increases the import, given the ultimate consequences of Satyagraha. I thank Glass for writing an opera to mark a true advancement in human civilization, nonviolent social change.

Gods word alone is sufficient, nothing needs be added. And the psalms do talk about worshipping GOD with music.

I was introduced today to this composer through this organist’s performance today at Notre Dame Basilica. This was an educational experience for myself and husband and we will share the profoundly enjoyable time throughout our lives. Memorable!

The Anglo Catholic movement had poisoned Anglicanism. Its Protestant roots are withering because of the Anglo Catholic movement and apathy.

Listened to this as the last piece in an organ concert in the cathedral of st Mary the virgin in Tallinn this week. Was performed by Kadri Ploompuu. Absolutely incredible.

great job and played with such style - none or that awful English 'milk and honey' legato. Have you published the arrangements or make them available on any or the music score sites - be great to play?

Mesmerizing, contemplative, soothing and absolutely amazing! One of my favorite all time pieces well played on a magnificent organ. Love all the heavy reeds. Very haunting when they come in with all that power. Obviously very difficult to play, but this performance is masterful! Thank you so much for this video!

It's not actually true that West Gallery music was a capella... It in fact encompassed the town musicians, someone bringing to the gallery what they felt would contribute, and in time began to become a bit... raucous. When small parish churches could afford organs, the "West Gallery Gang" was disposed of. There are surviving drawings, a few paintings, and numerous accounts of this that are being utilized to recreate this sound today.

The Church of England is essentially a Protestant Church. The Anglo-Catholic movement, although they have given that Church a fine artistic and cultural patrimony, was engaged in theological delusion. St John Henry Newman had the honesty and courage to realise this and joined the one true Church. Many followed in his wake. Deo gratias.

Yeah, I'm scottish. I have anglo descent through the stanton family. I've really been studying catholicism of the brittish Isles, and as you can see on the " nicklas Catholic "channel, British catholicism is a real gem ...I feel its connected to the restoration prophecy of st Edward and the prophecy of la sallet on the conversion of a great protestant nation In the north wich in turn causes the revival of christianity around the world !
