Question, how did you take apart your lid switch? It just had screws in there? Mines doesn't have that and it's hard to take off

Sarah I have a question I have a roper that thinks it's just like this model is it agitator supposed to go back and forth because I can tell mine is just going one way
@steven_baconbits

That depends on the model, some agitators spin both ways some don't.

I'm in the same boat. I am having no luck at troubleshooting why my dryer isn't working. Both of my appliances are over 20 years old now so I think it's time for me to retire them.

Twisted the three wires together. Plugged it in and a spark jumped from somewhere around the start and stop button. Quickly unplugged it. Think I’m gonna trash it.smh

connect the same colored wires together. Red to red, black to black, white to white etc. All you're doing is completing the circuit. Hope that helps.

Do you have any idea what the screw size is ? I somehow took the lid switch out a long time ago and configured some kind of bypass but not it's not draining somI plan to get a replacement lid switch but it doesn't appear to come with the two screws.
@steven_baconbits
@steven_baconbits Жыл бұрын
I don't remember and no longer have the replacement to reference since I kept the bypass after a second switch failed. Once you have the replacement maybe take it with you to a hardware store to find a match.

Sounds like you have a different style lid switch than the Roper has in this video. There are different styles so looking for a video that deals with that specific lid switch is going to be your best bet. Good luck.

Only twist the matching colors together. Red to red with a cap. White to white with a cap, and so on.

I was unable to siphon the water out of mine. So I bypassed the lid switch to drain it because the washer has to be moved to remove panels to get to that switch. The lid switch is a safety feature to keep people especially children out of the washer while it is running. Hope this helps and thank you for your comment.

I just did the same thing (without this video) to my disintegrated switch(keep the ground screwed to the washer body, shouldn't need to bother it at all, it's usually a green wire. This method avoids all that unscrewing the top panel and trying to move it around. My washroom is quite cramped and the method I made up worked perfectly.

Actually, this can be a permanent bypass. Especially if you keep the ground wire attached to the washer body.

This didn't work for my washer but I learned how to strip wire, apply the cap on the wires and I understand now that this was not a plug in part, that it was saudered in like you mentioned in the comments. There is a taped area of wires up underneath that don't look good but very hard to get to. I will be draining this with my shopvac now, any tips are welcome. Thanks for your video!
@steven_baconbits

Too bad this didn't fix your issue. It's always good to learn new things though. And just so you won't get in any future misunderstandings, you have the pronunciation right but it is spelled "solder". Luckily I could siphon into a nearby bathtub with a garden hose in an emergency, good luck with the shop vac 😕
@carrie5032
@carrie5032 3 жыл бұрын
@@steven_baconbits haha and that spelling looks weird, thank you! I have a basement drain but it filled up after dumping so much water down with the shop vac. So I'll give it some time and do it again, just draining slow.

Just do NOT buy a Roper. They are garbage. I have had this garbage for a year, A YEAR, and the lid lock does this so I have to unplug it and wait til it unlocks itself the cycles NEVER complete and stops working at the rinse cycle, sometimes the agitator doesn't spin though nothing is broken on it, and if a cycle does complete my clothes are sopping wet. GARBAGE. SPEND THE EXTRA MONEY!!!

Roper is a Whirlpool brand, and it's easy to agree they are not top of the line. Typically more affordable appliances are just older tech that's come down in price. The one I have is almost 20 years old no different than the basic washers most of us grew up with. A lid switch is a very minor problem for the age. Just like with cars an appliance can end up being a lemon and it sounds like maybe that's what's happened. It could be a problematic model and searching reviews might of alleviated that. The point of this video is not to promote or degrade a brand it's just to display an easy fix that's applicable to many different brands and models of this type of washer, and maybe others. It's a very basic switch bypass. Have a great day, Sincerely Steven.

Me and my wife were totally confused. She gave up right away... I sat there with voltage tick tracer to make sure it had voltage... then I fiddled with the knobs a bit, then stuck the dingus end of my tick tracer into the lid switch hole and it started. Called my wife and said honey I think know what the problem is... its the switch... she takes up a screw driver near by jams it in and the whole thing popped backwards... welp... your bypass video helped us out to where we can at least finish the load before we replace the whole dang thing now

god damn dude. i had the exact same roper as you do and had the same exact problem earlier this year so i figured i'd just replace it since the machine was 15 years old or so and i wanted something "newer".. biggest mistake ever. should've found your video instead and fixed it. now i'm stuck with a piece of shit HE machine that barely washes my clothes. edit: after owning the new LG washer for well over a year now, i must say, that thing actually washes pretty damn good. it takes about twice as long, so that's a pain in the ass, but the clothes come out nice and clean and not beat up by the agitator in the middle.
