The "dead zone" as you called it is an extremely invasive plant called Kudzu. It covers trees depriving them of light and kills the trees. This plant is really out of control in the Southern states.

Burr Oak is an awesome area. The lake is great. If you find time and don't mind a little mud, try the Wildcat Hollow trail. It is just north of Burr Oak and has two trails. A shorter 6 mile trail and a longer 16 mile trail. It's pretty with some great pine areas. Also, if you like hiking lake areas, try Lake Vesuvius near Ironton, OH. Depending where you are in WV it probably is not much difference as driving to Zaleski. They have a backpack trail that is 8.3 miles, and a longer trail that is a little over 16 miles. It's really nice.

I underestimated Ohio for elevations also, I'm originally from Arkansas and was pleasantly surprised in Wayne national Forest and zaleski. Watching the "crazies"! Ha! I'd be afraid that I'd fly right into those repel lines. Where do the repellers drop to? Is that over land or over water? I bet that water was COLD for the unexpected swimmers!
@wvhikingadventures7145 жыл бұрын
Mark Thompson the rapellers touch down to the left and above the beach the BASE jumpers use as a landing zone. The rappelling is 650 foot and a total blast. Actually the water is not too bad. New river starts in NC and flows north to us and is quite warm relative to other east coast rivers. 70 degree water temps this bridge day. Will hit 80 sometimes in the summer. One of the reasons it is so popular for rafting.
