Scalloped fretboard????? I think that Robert would be baffled both by your pick holding and the fact you don't use a triangle pick: he considers it's impossible to play it in such conditions... Well, not so long ago, he considered it as impossible to play at all, he himself needed to practise it 5 hours a day to be able to play it live, BTW, even on Starless, it's a live take, KC never played it in a recording studio... Despite I bought "Failure to Fracture", I definitively don't have the courage to get involved: it's really terrifying, even worse than I thought!

I think Adrian Belew needs to have you on call for backup on the Beat tour. I'm only half kidding. You should send him a tape. I've seen Adrian Belew live and he plays KC stuff but something is missing, obviously. Just send him the Fripp part of 'Frame by Frame' or 'Elephant Talk' or 'Matte Kudasai.' He might invite you to tour with him after his gig with Steve Vai is over.

The picking… I- how?-
@viktortanaskovski54194 ай бұрын
Honestly, I don't know. Since I started learning I developed a bad habit, instead of tilting the pick towards the bridge, I tilt it towards the neck of the guitar. I know that for playing fast, the "rule" is to have all your fingers in a fist and tilt the pick the other way, but somehow (read: with years and years of practice), this eventually worked out just fine :D

Clean and beautifully articulated. As someone who's attempted the piece themselves I have to ask about your picking grip, as, I'll be frank, it looks abominably painful 😖
@viktortanaskovski54199 ай бұрын
Hahaha thank you, and as for the picking grip, I know it is weird. I don't know how and why, but when I started learning the guitar (2007), I probably misunderstood something about the way one is supposed to hold the pick, and the right angle to hit the strings (bending the pick towards the bridge, not the neck). But I've developed this "bad" habit and now it is impossible for me to play any other way. Luckily, it is not as painful as it looks :D

MAN! you know what you have just done? How much did it take to learn that? how many years? When was the first time you heard fracture?
@viktortanaskovski5419 Жыл бұрын
Thank you very much, I appreciate it. I believe the first time I heard it was ten years ago, but I didn't dare trying to learn it until much later. The first time I sat down to learn the whole thing was 2020, and than I've been practicing slowly for two years straight, with some breaks in between. Regards!

@davidleibnitz153 Жыл бұрын
I believe it can be done on an open string
@viktortanaskovski5419 Жыл бұрын
@@davidleibnitz153 I think I know what you mean, and I am playing those (just an open E string). The deal is that, as far as I know, Fripp played this with a volume pedal which he was opening all the way up on those notes. In my case, I had to play the whole part one with a cleaner sound, so the lack of gain makes those notes somewhat inaudible. Regards!
