Let the gauge swatch rest overnight. Wash it the same way you'll wash the garment. Measure in multiple places.

Very handy! Both of my kids are growing like weeds and still wear the same size,but pant legs and sleeves are short. I wanted to make a sweater for them but didn't want to redo the entire thing when the kids outgrew it. Glad to learn of this trick, thank you!

My kids did that! They'd suddenly stretch longer, but not be wider. It's great to get an extra year or more out of a sweater.

Hello. Those holes represent the tension dial from the tension mast or the stitch dial on the carriage? Wouldn't we need to take into consideration both number? Thank you so much!
@dianaknitsКүн бұрын
The holes represent the carriage tension. I usually establish the upper tension so it pulls up a little and doesn't let the yarn slip too much. Then I leave it there for the whole process of choosing and measuring a carriage tension. If there were a delay in getting to the sweater, I'd have to keep track of it.

@KarlSmith-p5r10 күн бұрын
I am following the pattern but at 8 sts to the inch things are a lot tighter and more difficult to manage than in your video which I think must've been knit at a much looser gauge for the purpose of the demonstration.
@dianaknits9 күн бұрын
Could your yarn be a little too thick for that gauge? I am using a very soft sock yarn, "fingering weight" or group 2, in the demo.
@KarlSmith-p5r4 күн бұрын
@@dianaknits I am using Activ sock yarn and 8sts/inch is the recommended gauge. Was your sample knitted at this gauge? Everything is a lot smaller and tighter on my sock and it is harder to do the sew-as-you go. I can't easily see the knots and the loops.
@dianaknits4 күн бұрын
My sample is not Activ. I use Activ on my sock machine, though, and routinely get 8-1/2 to 8-3/4 stitches per inch. I wouldn't think 1/4 stitch would matter that much. You can cut the gauge back, though, by doing the math. Divide your gauge by my gauge, and use that factor to multiply by the number of stitches and adjust your stitches.

When I do this with acrylic, it still rolls and steaming will not work with acrylic. Do you have a tip please?
@dianaknits10 күн бұрын
The sample in the video was made with acrylic, very lightly steamed. Don't touch the yarn with the steam wand. Not all yarns will unroll with simple edgings.

Good morning, do you know how to make a stockinette stitch scarf that doesn't roll on the edges?
@dianaknits12 күн бұрын
I have a lot of videos with different edges and anti-roll finished. How difficult it is to remove roll depends a lot on the yarn. Check out my channel for resources like that.

It doesn't work with thin wool. It still coils
@dianaknits13 күн бұрын
Some fibers, like wool, and very prone to rolling. It's the shape of the knit stitch. Ribbing, wide hems, and knit/purl stitches like long stitch, seed stitch, and moss stitch, will elminate the curl because they have equal amounts of fiber on both sides. Edgings like this one will work with a lot of fibers, but some yarns are much more stubborn.

Can you show how to do the punch card please
@dmvelez9430Ай бұрын
This was so much easier than I expected! Thanks for the clear instructions! However, I have a question. I didn't use the same number of needles - I think I did 70 (35 each side) on my 9mm "chunky" machine . I assumed 12 sections would equal a circle, but when I laid it out on the floor I feel like there was a bit too much. And, the outside of the blanket seemed a bit too big, ruffled almost. Is there precise math involved in getting this to be a nice, flat circle? Or perhaps it was uneven weights pulling the outside more than the inside?
@dianaknitsАй бұрын
Depending on the yarn and machine, you may have to change the number of sections. Some yarn is stretchier, some is bumpier, and what often happens when you change yarn is there is a change in the ratio of row gauge to stitch gauge. I really don't think it's a weight problem. I think you need lsss sections. If you have 12, perhaps you could rip back to 10. Try folding the pinning out a section or two and see if that fixes it.

The ribbing attachment is in the way of easily getting the SAYG part of the item into position, but if you can figure that out, it wouldl certainly do the seam.

I'm still trying to get my grandma's 1950s knitting machine to work properly, sourcing new needles has proven impossible. Found a brother electroknit on fb marketplace and was willing to pay to have it shipped (they were in WI) but they already had a taker. I've resorted back to the bond fashion knitter my boyfriend got at big lots for $25 about 20 years ago. Nobody around here even knows what these machines are. Someday I'll have the fun money to get a new/used much updated unit with needles that can handle modern yarn AND be easily replaced. I'm fascinated and somewhat addicted😊

I first made these for Christmas 2015. I've had one pair that just needed the second thumb knit. It's been sitting on my shelves for so long. I lost the yarn for awhile, lost one of the gloves, etc. Thought about just throwing them out but then I had both gloves and the yarn....I've been wearing one pair I made that Christmas and thought it was time for a new pair so I made those and then decided to just finish the darned glove on the shelf LOL. Now I'm looking in my stash to see if I can make more :)
@dianaknitsАй бұрын
Yep, I came up with this pattern a long time ago. I worked in an office that could get chilly, and I'd get quite cold sitting still and working at my computer. I found many fingerless gloves quite uncomfortable, and not particularly warm. I made these soft and stretchy and sometimes I made them extra long. I put up this bulky version because I like to post a free pattern for each holiday.

Hello, I can’t wait to try this cast on method, it’s beautiful, the possibilities are limitless. I only have a Silver Reed LK150 but I have learnt so much from you Diana thank you. I also managed to get hold of the weave R attachment and the needle beetle you demonstrated recently. I was lucky enough that the intarsia carriage came with my machine when I bought it. The kriscrafter garter bar was frustrating for me and it didn't and come with a stopper. It would pick up stitches from the previou row as Diana was checking for. I was fortunate to finally find a mid gauge garter bar of the older version set with the grooves.
@dianaknitsАй бұрын
It is easier to use a Japanese bar for flipping. If the stitches are a little loose and I check each time, my KrisKrafter bar works fine. I have thought about purchasing a Japanese bar, but the last one I saw was in the $300 range. To me, it's a real blessing to have someone like Kris who puts out so much money and ingenuity to make things we need for our machines.

@@dianaknits I was lucky someone was willing to sell me a mid gauge Japanese bar for $100 a couple of years ago. Considering how rare they are I thought it was a great price. $300 is outragous!!! I would have chosen to use waste knitting instead.
