It’s because you’re closing out the game in the middle of the game. You won’t save your round progress, and you won’t get a new high round in the combat record so there is really no benefit of doing this.

From my understanding this isn't necessarily a bug or glitch. It's very easily abused, yes, however I believe they left it this way for if your game crashes. People would be upset if they just grabbed a gum to then crash shortly after
