Thanks so much! I was using French grip, and it was causing me some gnarly pain in my left forearm. Followed your guide and the pain is slowly but surely subsiding. Thanks!

It’s flexible depending on what/how you are practicing. My first teacher had my alternate hands no matter what. That forces you to switch lead.

Phrase D is a killer...
@nielsmyrner3 ай бұрын
Definitely the hardest. It is a puzzle, but the phrase is like a seed rhythm you’ll use frequently if playing jazz/bop.

I've been practicing this via the Vic Firth rudiment videos on their KZbin. I'm pretty comfortable up through, say, the middle of "platinum" speed. And I fall apart at diamond speed.

Not sure if you are still active on this channel but I have a question. So the dotted eight is 8th note followed by the fourth part of the 16th note? Great video by the way.
@nielsmyrner7 ай бұрын
That is correct! The dotted eighth is worth three sixteenths and the forth is the last in a group of four sixteenths.

@nielsmyrner9 ай бұрын
Thanks! It’s been a long time since filming this video, but I think I was using Zildjian “Bill Stewart” sticks at the time. I use a variety of different sticks depending on the playing context. I’d probably choose a Vic Firth AJ3 for this video now.
