Now that I am older, can you imagine being Carrie Fisher playing that role with HIM (Star Wars, wow) ?

This version has strayed significantly from the original Sir ACD's version. Good show, but why not show Dr Watson proposing to Mary??
@ronniedrozario8883Ай бұрын
My favourite most foreign novel (& no more Miss Mary/MB, with Dr.Watson/RR business), and amongst Indian - Parasuram/Raj Sekhar Basu's short story 'comedy' text (kochi sansad, dar kak, saralakkha home, sri sri siddhaswari ltd., chithi baazi,...). Kolkata, India.❤

This Holmes doesn't exude intelligence, like the other Sherlocks, he seems a little bit petty, in a school teachery way exude

Great story. Always something exotic, in this case, the gold fields of Victoria. For Sherlock fans, most probably never left their home towns, and the exposure to far-off worlds in these stories must have been wonderful entertainment.

Peter Cushing disliked acting in this series. He felt the lack of rehearsal time hampered his performance.

Great adaptation. Although the script is almost identical to the later Jeremy Brett version in the 90s.

I haven't seen Peter Cushings Hammer film of 'The Hound of the Baskervilles' for a long time, and came across his BBC series on here by chance. This is absolutely terrific - a superb performance by Peter, I could hardly take my eyes off him. And supported by a wonderful Watson, I am extremely impressed! This also has that lovely old BBC feeling of dramas made for dark winter nights when the wind sings around the chimney pots :)

I just saw the 1981 Soviet Union version, best ever! Exceptional! Has English subtitles too!

It is strange to me, that so many people like this version, it appears. I watched it out of curiosity (as I haven't seen it for a long time) and I probably won't be watching it again. While it has certain merits, the music cutting in and out at odd times, the lines almost being fluffed during the entirety of the two parts and the on occasion, very odd directing and editing choices, just ruin it for me and take me out of the story. It is a shame that no recorded version, has truly been able to capture the terror of this convoluted tale, successfully. Perhaps, therein lies the problem. No one has been able to and no one will ever be able to, pull together the strands of the story, satisfactorily. I did have a good laugh listening to Watson creak his way into the awful stone shelter on the moors set though; that was fun

A bizarre production with some odd directing choices but it has a few good moments of note. The tale comes alive in the outdoor locations. Why the BBC couldn't make the interiors more than just a stage play is baffling; budgetary constraints I imagine

I'll sound a contrary note. Peter Cushing was a fine and talented actor, well deserving of the esteem in which he's still held. But in this adaptation - not for me. He's too old, and too benign. I don't see the mercurial brilliance that was so well captured by Jeremy Brett.
