Bought a mint 06 3 months ago.... what a machine that blade engine is sublime.... the handling and brakes aren't the best but can be improved massively with £400/500. I can't see the money in new bikes and haven't for a long time so spending a couple of grand on a litre class bike in mint condition makes a lot of sense these days. It's got everything I need and nothing I don't' an often overlooked bike but never underrated they are fantastic realible and deceptively quick bikes

One of the few bikes where I prefer the sound of the stock cans. I like the sound of the engine: turbine-like whine without the box-of-spanners rattle of most online motors. Induction roar still cuts through when opened up.

I'm not really sure why Honda decided to stop making this bike. Granted it was long in the tooth, but that's just a reason to update. It used to beat it's opposition in every road test. And they replaced it with nothing comparable really. I guess it's just that the thing these days is for "adventure bikes" whatever that means. They chopped the CBF1000 too that you mention (I've got one of them). So, apart from the Gold Wing, Honda have abandoned the mile munching tourer. Shame. So, might just get one anyway next time I change.

Euro 5 may have had something to do with it - also newer models from BMW etc. are covered in high tech stuff, and that can age a model in the eyes of the buyer. If you look at what they are putting on newer tourers, you get engine modes, cruise control, suspension control, tyre monitoring, etc, etc - not sure where you would put it all on a Pan without a total redesign!! I am on my fourth Pan - a 2011 and I still don't think you can beat it for smoothness, weather protection and mile munching.

@@PDG1956 I miss my cbf1000 and wish I had kept it but just not enough room in the bike garage . The PAN is a phenomenal tourer but for a quick spin I find myself more and more taking the wife’s Honda rebel out . It’s such a great fun wee bike .

My previous bike was an ST1100. I've now got one of the latest Goldwings. I've never owned an ST1300 but I've ridden a few. The new Wing is much more of a motorcycle than the previous one and is actually just as manageable in every respect as the ST's are IMO. In some ways more so due to the forward and reverse walking modes as I opted for the DCT. The extra weight over the ST isn't really noticeable at all. I'm only 5'6" and weigh just over 10 stone but have no problems at all with mine. I think what Honda did was to effectively consolidate the old Wing and ST1300 in to one new bike and have come up with an absolute barnstormer of a bike. It munches miles like nothing else I've ever ridden and can be hussled along surprisingly quickly on twisty roads. The downside for a lot of people is that they are very pricey but they've been around for three years now so there should be some on the used market but perhaps not very many yet. If a big tourer is your kind of bike and you lean towards the ST1300 the latest Goldwing is well worth a look IMO if you haven't done so already.
