Awesome looking box! The handle looks cool. I just can't handle the music and all of the handle comments. 🤢

Billy, where do you get you brass bars? I'm in the Houston, TX area and cannot find any place that sells it.

Great video! I’ve never seen it done that way. I’ve done my fair share of drifting over the last 30 years. Thanks for great tip!

I'm anxious to try this idea. A couple points... I would think that it would be difficult for the band saw blade to drift out of the TS cuts, another reason to use this method. I would like to know the best options for 7 1/4" blades for this method.

In the time you made those cuts on the table saw on a piece that size or really any medium to small sized piece you could have turned that round on the lathe in the same time or less when you get good enough. Using sanding blocks helps with uniform thickness when turning cylinders. I'm just a guy who got out of highschool a couple years ago, just sharing a few things I was taught. (Always remember to tighten the tailstock during rough turning.) The harsher impacts of the tool on the piece loosen things up.

I really want a table saw but ive seen some tragedies even among people that used them for 40 years.. I generally rely on my mitre and band saw, plus a router table.

I have been in this business over 40 yrs and never made a coaster either, trivets yes, but never an end-grain coaster. Why? Have your client drop one onto a hard floor and see how it goes. However, this has given me a great idea. I have begun to dabble in wooden boats and now have a lot of fiberglass scraps. So I can see some of these on the radar finally. Thanks

Very good tips, thank you. When you mix tung oil and mineral spirits, what is the proportion for each? Will it work good with a soft wood like parota? Or just for hard woods, if so, what do you recommend for patota. Thank you!

Any reason you didn't use the dye on the maple before glue up? Seems it would really speed things up.

I definitely prefer with the handle - even if it is not needed, it tells me straight away how the box opens. And it looks really cool and ties in perfectly with the overall design.

I just ordered one. Thank you for your input, especially about how to set it down after a cut so the attachment base doesn't move around and mess up the next cut. I find the price point to be very reasonable for how often I will use it, and the set-up to be fairly quick and easy, and the accuracy outstanding.

I have tried this in a couple boxes and I confess that I am amazed! However my external mortises have a trend of end up "slanted" due to the fact that the central tenon doesn't provide enough support to keep the board perfectly steady and aligned 90 degrees to the sled while I cut it so it's challenging to make it perfectly squared. I am going to try to make a large central tenon and small external mortises in order to achieve a better support and avoid my board keep wobbling. Otherwise I must be missing some small secret trick to do it right!

What is the wood you are using for the base? Is that some kind of plywood? Did you mill it thinner?

Nice video Billy you've become a turner. Trust me it's addictive. Couple points from my view. You need a chuck and your carbide tools if there basic/came with it reach out to easy wood tools probably one the best brands for carbide turning tools im sure they'd jump to work with you. Also in my opinion your better sticking to carbide as with traditional gouges your gonna need whole bunch more than 5 carbide and you need whole sharpening set up grinder the whole works just saying 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 need any more info drop me message

Try turning wet wood from fresh cut tree limbs as it’s a good way to learn in the use of all the different wood turning chisels. And most of all keep those tools razor sharp.

Invest in a hard hat with a visor; the moment a piece of wood flies towards your face, you'll be thankful for it. :)
