Great video. But you didn't mention three main advantages of button accordion over piano. 1. It is quite easy to build chords: just put the first finger to base note, than count 3 steps and than 4 steps more. 2. Learn the song. Than move right hand to 1 row below, and the left hand 3 rows below. As the layout is periodical - you will play in another scale (1.5tones higher) 3. 5 rows give you the greatest possibility to play on any scale. You can move all notes one step to the right. Or two. Or three - that means 1 row below/higher

I had trouble with the timezones aswell. An easy fix would be to add a clock on the website displaying your own timezone Ronan! This way others can easily translate that to their own.

I been taking lessons for about a year now. I’ve been taught using the 3- 2 fingering pattern. So, you’re starting the beginning students with the 3-4 fingering pattern. I tried this and it’s definitely not working for me right now. I was told to stick with the 3-2 fingering since I’m comfortable with it. What are your thoughts? Maybe eventually I will start using the 3-4 fingering. What are the pros and cons of using one pattern over the other. Please advise if you have time. I watch all your videos and posting. They are very informative. Thank you for that. Happy Squeezing 🪗 Dan

Hey Dan! I made a video specifically about this fourth finger on the bass vs. third finger on the bass. Stick with whatever you are comfortable with. Yes, I teach the fourth finger method to my students, as it doesn't require switching fingers for the alternate bass technique. But I tell all my students (lots of which learned the third finger method) to stick with it unless they start to run into limitations. Otherwise, stick with it and you won't have any issues :)

Don't buy an accordion like this. Its about 90 years old and out of tune. Accordion technicians are few and far apart and in my experience they wont fix instruments this old and cant necessarily either because of how long ago their parts stopped being produced. Each to their own but if i started out on this accordion, i would have never learned the instrument.

Same! I don't recommend buying an accordion like this as your first instrument. Here's a guide: accordionlove.com/how-to-buy-an-accordion/

Excellent idea. I’m working on a Master’s Degree in ethnomusicology in the UK remotely. The breakout room idea is what we do for our live sessions. Helps the learner not only stay engaged but feel not so alone. The accordion is so rare that connecting with other accordionists is so rare for me. I would appreciate the opportunity to connect with others. Sounds like a big challenge, but very valuable.

I hope this reaches you: I'm trying to play a pretty difficult song standing up that requires a ridiculous amount of left hand expertise but I'm having an issue with the bass, every time I go for example from D# to C or any range downwards with a jump of sorts (with the hand) that isn't reachable by just rotating the hand the left hand seems to droop downwards which I don't want, hope you can help, thanks!

What do the buttons (switches?) do on the bass side? I have 2 on mine, and I can hear *a* difference but I don't really know how it's different
@moshezuchter14 күн бұрын
Similar to the right hand switches, they change the number of reeds for your left hand.

Ear training plays a big role in being able to step away from sheet music and really *understand* a song. Give it a try! Here are more ear training exercises: accordionlove.com/hand-ear-coordination-exercises-for-the-accordion/

My family has exactly the same small accordion. I learned to play that instrument back in the 70s. My complain always was: accordion is cool for certain types of music. Sailor music, Bavariantraditonal Landla, Tango, frech chansons. But it didn’t work with jazz or rock music. I played „in the mood“ (Miller). But i didn’t like it. Now I am learning acoustic guitar. Camp fire songs.

Accordion player from Romania here. I learned by ear and watching my siblings. Trying to learn to read the sheet music now to expand style. I can say you’re completely right about over notating. It’s so much better to leave it up to us to style. There are so many options with our bellowed instrument.

I've always loved your videos - been there since you started. Punching the bass buttons IS great advice - except when it isn't. :) Most songs have an A and B section and those are perfect transition points to change you bass style.
