Hey I am in the market for a new rod. I am debating between this rod, dobyn, and phenix classic bfs rod. Tbh I would like to have a versatile rod for bass and trout. Do you have any recommendations for a rod that is great for bass/trout fishing? At least 6’6-7ft range.
@BayAreaBFS3 ай бұрын
Hi. If I had to pick 1 rod for bass AND trout, I would go with the Old 18 Bouyancy. It has more sensitivity needed for those light trout bites. The Phenix & Dobyns are great UL bass rods. Hope this helps!

Hey, so since you have the Calcutta and the nako cormorant. Can you give me a honesty review between those two? I been debating between those reels. I am looking for my first high end reel that is great for multi-species fishing, mainly panfish, bass (black&white species), walleye, and the occasional rainbow trout season. I would love to have the option to cast lighter lures but I mainly go around 1/32-1/4 most of the time if not 1/16-1/4 oz lures. Which would you take out most of the time between the cormorant and Calcutta for these specifications?
@BayAreaBFS3 ай бұрын
Hey brother. I own 6 Aldebaran BFS reels, 1 Calcutta Conquest BFS, and a bunch of CDM BFS reels. I can easily say my workhorse is the Cormorant. I have no affiliation with Nako. Just the average consumer. The Cormorant is very similar in every way to the Aldebaran. But, a little more forgiving when switching lures of different weights. Don't get me wrong, I love my Shimano reels too. Between the Aldebaran & CQ, I prefer the Alde due to the lower profile and weight. Hope this helps! 👍

Thanks for the comment. It can be tough to do both with 2 rods. Depending on the lure on the other rod, don't want it hitting the bottom or putting slack in the line where there fish you're fighting can cross it and cause a massive tangle. There are also times when you're fighting current or wind

I've been using Setting# 2 on the inside and +4 on the outside and haven't changed it in a while. I also use Varivas Max Power PE x8 in #0.06(14.5lb.) along with Seaguar InvizX 8 lb. flourocarbon and it works great for me. I also use a little ZAP Slo Thick CA glue on my Yucatan knot but that's just my old habits from throwing shooting heads with a saltwater fly rod.

@theoriginalrabbithole7 ай бұрын
I'm not sure if you're aware but one of the big selling points of the Haibo Arise Air, which I also have on my 3' 9" soft action BFS rod, is that you have 3 more brake setting 'bands' on the reel, if you flip the switch on the bottom and pull off the side cover and push and turn the red brake drum over to one of the other settings, which extends or retracts the drum futher into the magnets, giving you a total of 18 (3 bands times the 6 setting marks on the outside) possible brake increments to fine tune the brake about as much as you could ever want. 😄

Thanks for sharing. This is how company's loose customers (money and reputation). I have the Arise Air, almost the same reel but different companies. I like mine so far at least. This kind of behaviour makes people loose all confidence in the company. They told you that it was your problem, in dealing with their faulty product. They should be thanking you for pointing out a problem in the manufacturing process. Hate when companies behave like this. I won't be buying anything from ARK that's for sure. People need to know about companies that treat their customers with no respect. There are plenty of good companies that make good baitcasting reels. And respect their customers 👍🐟 Thanks again.

Hi love your channel. I mostly bass fish and have been doing so for 30 plus years. Mainly a delta guy. I’m teaching my kids ages 9 and 6 fishing. Casting in the delta ca be hard- too many snags. So I tried trout with them at a couple of local lakes. What I’ve noticed is that they are not able to cast the lures very well. Anything that is 1/16” - 1/8” they have trouble with. I run a 5.5 foot Claris and a 1000 Sedona for them on 4lbs. But things like mini Jings and small rapala can only go so far. And the wind up with tangles and getting frustrated when the fish are butting. Any tips on rod reel and lure selection that would help. I’m able to catch fish w/o kids no issue. But I’m in the teaching stage and want them to be successful so that they are lifers. I’ll trade you a delta large mouth trip on a bass boat for trout tips … 😂
@BayAreaBFS8 ай бұрын
Hi Nelson - First of all, thank you for your kind message. This is what makes me continue to make videos. For recommendations, I taught my kids to throw 3.5g spoons using a 5-6.5ft medium fast action rod and small Pflueger reels (size 500 or 1000) with 4lbs test Izorline XXX Co-polymer. I only fill the spool with about 70-80% of line capacity. For rods, I have them on Bass Pro UL graphite rods (can't remember the model name but they were inexpensive). Kids have a tendency to try and cast hard. I helped them understand the key is like throwing a ball at someone who's about 10ft away. The medium fast action rod will add the extra distance to their cast. As they become more comfortable with the casting motion, they can try to "throw the ball" about 15ft and so on. This helps to minimize those bird nests. The less line on spool also helps to minimize the size of the bird nest. Will still happen. It's a learning process. I'm taking my kids to Collins Lake this week to knock some casting rust off of them. Most likely will be doing the same steps I described above. Less is more. Hope this helps. Tight lines. 🙂
@nelsonlui58888 ай бұрын
Awesome… thanks for the tips. I’m still teaching them on spinning rods for now. I try to fill the spool less and focus on 3.5 spoons. I think the 1/16 and 1/32 mini jigs are just too light. I almost went to Collins this past weekend. Never been. But have a campsite reserved at 210 area in June. heard closer to the dam is better. Good luck out there !! Thanks again.
@BayAreaBFS8 ай бұрын
@@nelsonlui5888 Yep. Spinning reels 100%. It will be easier when they can feel the weight at 3.5g. 5g might be too much. 1/32 definitely too light.
