Loved it. Not seen Minic for years. I think I still have a large layout in boxes in my attic. It was a great childhood toy, with many hours of pleasure and fun.

You have a superb layout there. The tech for the time was quite advanced. Although as kids we never had any of it... only Triang Railways. However we did have Scalextric which never seemed to work properly in all the time we had it. It was a mission to put the track together. It was a very early set whereby the sections were connected upside down and held in place with tiny spring clips and then the whole circuit had to be carefully flipped over without putting strain on the joints which took about 4 of us to do it (advantage of having a lot of brothers). The car pickups would snag on the joints too. I never dared to ask my parents for a Minic layout. But now I am "all grown up", I have managed to garner my own small setup which works very well considering how old it is. The scale isn't quite the same as Triang trains, but they still work nicely together so I forgive them that flaw. The only major draw back is that the operator can only have one vehicle per slot , and when there is such a great range of vehicles available it does seem a pity that something wasn't thought of so that multiple cars could be used at the same. I was thinking that maybe something like Hornby's Zero 1 system could be adapted to control individual vehicles...I am not tech savvy so I'd have to get help with that. Anyway love your models and layout.😊

I'm amazed! This just popped up in my feed and I had a massive feeling of nostalgia - havn't seen Minic since I was about 10! I had the mustard coloured Miura (or was it a GT40, my memory slips) and a white E-type. Marvellous! 🤓

Great to see the old Minic Motorway running so well after all these years. We have a small Minic set running over here at Exeter Road Model Railway but without so many vehicles as we have lost a lot over the years.

BRILLIANT!!! Great video! have spent ages repeat playing it. We still use our Minic Motorway although now struggling to get parts etc. We have some video of our layout over on our youtube channel (Exeter Road Model Railway). Thank you for sharing your amazing layout. Also recognise some of the Minic buildings. Your road / rail also works really well after all these years too!

Very interesting. I have R242 (also marked S5919 which I suspect is the p/n for the body w/o the bogies). Is that the unit upon which the launcher sits? I never had a launcher but it looks like the kind of thing that would interest my younger audience.

Yes The R242 is the standard wagon which this is, although in Battlespace colours. interestingly it is different on the R343 Rocket laucher and the R341 Searchlight Wagon which has a sviel mounting plate on it and the moulding is different.

Being primarily a railway enthusiast, in the early stages I thought of Minic as an add-on to a railway layout. As time has passed, though, have to admit it has a charm all of its own. Also note how very fully the excellent use of the space available has been made by both road and rail layout design. And the buildings fit great too. Good on You !

If you had some steady photos of the motor and the key dimensions then i could confirm the following : Looks like one of the versions Triang used of the Mabuchi FT16 motor. Think you misread as PT16. In the Scalextric race tuned cars first made in Hong Kong from 1966. Although cheap but fast and powefil , Triang sought out cheaper Hong Kong made clones of the Japanese sourced so there were also versions in Scalextric called the big Raymond motor and also the larger Johnson 222 was fitted. You may also see a Mabuchi FT16D motor but that is unlikely to fit the Turbo car. The 16D was an early upgrade with better bearings, higher performance winding of the armature, better commutator and heat sinks for the brushes. Drive shaft for these at the non brush end. From a time when slot cars running on large wood routed tracks was in a huge world wide boom so this was an attempt ftom Scalextric to keep up with the high end products. Before Scalextric went backwards and focused on the toy side of things when the boom went bust.

I am in the process of rebuilding/converting a second Pullman train now, namely a HST with Mark3 coaches. I have been able to obtain three of these coaches but they need the window inserts replacing.
