If Rama didn't do antim sanskar for dashrath for him to come as nanda. Then what about Kaushalya? If Rama did antim sanskara for Kaushalya, then how is she yoshada in dwaparyug ? I think it wasn't about antim sanskara . It is simply that if Rama would have been with Dasratha, he would not have died. They both would have lived happily in the palace and nothing would have happened. The cause of Dasratha dying was separation from Rama. And for him (Dasratha) to come as nanda he had to die. Hence the separation was necessary. One of the many reasons for vanvasa.
