I just set mine up.. I put a CO meter directly in the exhaust stream.. When it was up to temperature the reading was zero PPM.. I got 100PPM or so during start up/shutdown but the reading in the main part of the shop never went above zero PPM... So, that means there is no reason to run the exhaust outside, now all of the heat is useful for heating.. I was amazed by this and of course will always run a CO detector but I won't be punching a hole in the shop wall.
@paulethier34168 күн бұрын
That’s great. I would still recommend venting your exhaust outside.
@frankish53148 күн бұрын
@@paulethier3416 Why? My propane heater which is 5 times the size of this diesel heater is direct burn inside the shop.. If this doesn't make any CO then there is no reason to.

CB is about dead. Waze and google maps gives accidents, slow downs, police. I loved CB's for years but with trucks with electronic logs, satellite tracking, governors, streaming radio it's pretty much killed chatter on the road anymore.
@Richardj4109 күн бұрын
Restriction in the exhaust of any kind changes the fuel to air mixture. The unit can't tell so it still pumps the same amount of fuel even if the air changes causing problems especially soot.

Wait did you say you don't think gaskets are critical & you have a garage with tools 😂 Coked up like that you need to chance the screen within the fuel tube
@paulethier341610 күн бұрын
It was a cheap paper gasket. But, I reused the gasket and some permatex gasket material when it was reassembled. I ended up changing the exhaust to allow moisture to drain. No issues for the past two years and no CO leaks. Thanks for leaving a comment.

Distance is one thing but elevation is more important. You will be able to transmit and receive 50-70 miles if you are up high and no hills in the way. And you are right, the antenna is far more important than the radio. If you tune your new antenna your results will be even better.

How long did you run your heater before you needed to clean it.
@paulethier341611 күн бұрын
This time it was quick maybe a month. Since I corrected the exhaust installation its been fine for two years. The outlet has to be lower than heater so any moisture in the exhaust will drain out.

Ham radio operator here... I have my 2m radio with me on long trips along with my 10/11 meter rig.. 11 meter gets channel 19.. 2m does pretty well while traveling as you hit repeaters and my 2m rig is a 70 watt radio so it does well.. And 2m is popular with a lot of Hams.. All that said.. Nothing beats the CB and Channel 19 when you want to know.. I drove over 30 years big truck and was in transportation management another 20 years.. currently retired.. I still stay in touch with the trucking community.. there are still the local channels, like 14 and 7 and 3 that are pretty popular around here.. But on the highway traveling.. I always monitor Channel 19.. I also monitor 2m 146.520 .. if I remember right GMRS main frequency (repeater frequency) is 158.880
@paulethier341611 күн бұрын

@kenma880611 күн бұрын
@@paulethier3416 Yeah, I am not a GMRS person, so off hand I did not know the frequencies.. I know I can get them on my Ham radios.. but I never talk on them.. Mainly because it is locked to channels and you can only talk on those channels, where HAM radio is much different... .. The CB when i head all the way up on I-81 to Watertown/Fort Drum area in the winter time.. 19 is a must, since you can have no snow, the a mile up the road there is 2 feet of snow on the road.. 2-meter north of Syracuse works great as I can hit repeaters pretty steady and talk to locals about road conditions all the way through St Lawrence County NY..
