On behalf of PAHO’s Director, Dr. Jarbas Barbosa, many thanks for the invitation to participate in the recent episode of the “Getting to Zero” series: No Waiting for Tomorrow - Eliminating #CervicalCancer in the Americas. For Dr. Barbosa, it is crucial that we shed light on the women that are suffering, and dying, from a disease we have the tools to prevent, treat and ultimately eliminate as a public health problem. PAHO is committed to working with the countries of the Americas and our partners to eliminate cervical cancer from the Region for good, and in doing so become the first to eliminate a cancer of any kind.

Countries are at various levels of readiness . Support to focus on the readiness, possible a readiness tool that weighs in on all the hurdles as presented . 1. PHC status 2. Awareness and Education 3. Research and policy 4.Government commitment meter 5. Referral and treatment models These parameters must be triangulated to state the readiness of each country

My thinking is in line with what Dr. Ngozi said " women do not forget to take good care of your own health, while taking care of the entire family". This is what is happening, they need to be educated and economically empowered, thus will contribute in decision making power about their Health and that of their children. We are in support of the campaign for HPVV Thank you Dr Ngozi and Dr. Anugrdha.
