I had Mr. Hall 3 times, 3 Ds. I had Mr. Wilkin 5 times, including my req & suburbs and scored every time. I think, how you do with an appearance on your first time with any given examiner, goes a long way to shape your next appearance with them, as in your confidence & their view of you. That said, I never had to sit in front of Mark Gunning and I'm bloody well glad of that!

I really do think (admittedly I'm not a cabbie *yet*) that if the trade is going to have a future then it needs to inject itself into the mayor's long-term plans, whoever the mayor may be. This vilification and ridicule of Khan online, whether he deserves it or not (and I've disliked him since long before he was mayor), is childish and unprofessional and just really is not going to ingratiate us or show us in a good light.

I recently moved to London and i admire and respect cabbies on the road. I do food delivery and spend most of the time on roads in central. They say ive to have 3 years old licence to drive for uber but as i know uber is all about manipulation like they flood the msrket with too many drivers and then all get nothing. For the same reason ive asked myself. Why not prepare for the knowledge for 3 or more years. That feels better competitive and imoressive. But then i think i might not have a good memory. Still sandwiched between thoughts of doing it or not doing it. Because at some point i think i might be not for me.
@WizAnn320
@WizAnn320 15 күн бұрын
It is a misconception that the Knowledge is to do with good memory. Studies have shown that the people who win memory competitions have average to below average memories. It is all about technique, determination and necessity. Stop thinking about this any longer and start the knowledge today.

The video is very helpful and I have one question which is: you do not need to learn the links between each runs? I am doing with a link and one run will become two with a link and 16 runs a week will become 32. Do I have to do with link or just a runs? I need your suggestions Thank you
@WizAnn320
@WizAnn320 15 күн бұрын
NO! You do not need to learn the links, however they can be useful as a dictionary. Do the bluebook and learn all forward only. See that as your times table. From that basis wouldn't it be great if you then had the power to calculate routes? So start by doing point to point with the Links and the reverse and compare your answers with the written answers. This is a far superior use of energy and development

@@WizAnn320 I'm doing computer science at University, and the idea of a self-driving car is basically something that will never happen, at least not in our lifetime without significant infrastructure changes. For A-level, I build a little rasberry Pi robot that had to figure out the shortest path through a maze using Dijkstra's algorithm (an idea that can be extrapolated to routing for the Knowledge). It used an image recognition algorithm to go towards certain colours, after it had driven around to learn the map. This in isolation worked very well, however, as soon as a random variable was introduced, it would basically stop working. For example, my orange socks were confused for the red ball, and introducing the cat just confused it further. What this shows is that the real world is very difficult for a self-driving car, and the knoledge is still better any day of the week. Even when cars do drive themselves, how will they deal with road closures? Random and weird requests? People who want to drive past a landmark (e.g. Buck House) but not stop at it? Disabled people (e.g. getting the ramp out, fastening the harness, etc.)? Cyclists, just in general? Pedestrians? Basically anyone who doesn't follow the rules of the road? Narrow 2-way streets where you need to pull in? There's just too much stuff going on for a self-driving car to deal with in London. Finally, it's AI 101 that anything a human can do really well, like driving a black cab, is really hard for a computer, and anything a computer can do really well, e.g. aggregating data about where passenger demand is very high, is really tedious and difficult for a human to do.
@rhyswilliams7884
@rhyswilliams7884 19 күн бұрын
I just realised, on those narrow 2-way streets you get in South London, how would a self-driving car figure out that the car coming the other way isn't among the parked cars by the side of the road?

Keep calling your books every single day until you finish , p2p is were the war is one quantity is key 50 lines everyday and pen 50 for your partner , don’t neglect bike work the more you are in the London the more you are familiar with those streets . Dont try to impress to examiners on any stage even 21s if you have done the work and enough p2p you know the roughly the line don’t take them through 6 extras left and right to achieve the same thing you may trip up most important no days off be consistent and you will get there

@@WizAnn320 unfortunately our trade isn't what it once was. Rising costs for the vehicle we use both hiring and owning are unsustainable. I did the knowledge alone so improvised and satisfied my own OCD ie everything I learnt forwards I had to know I knew it backwards and that was my initial introduction into point to point was calling my blue book in reverse and that continued into missing pieces etc I found it really helped. I also did “the knowledge clock” where I set out 12 points around the circumstance of the 6 mile radius and would randomly call one to another this really helped refine bridge selection and get a really good sense of direction across the whole map. I do miss doing the knowledge it really brought the best out of me the whole challenge of it. Although I see a knowledge boy (I say boy but he looked twice my age bless him) on his bike in the pouring rain, I don’t miss that so much 😂 👍🏻

My tip is: when on Bluebooks, there will be one or two runs every week that you struggle to recall. Don't worry about it just yet. As long as you are putting the work in and calling over, then it will stick after 3 or 4 spaced repetitions. I freak out nearly every week and then next week realise I'm calling those runs just as smoothly as all the others. You will have to call these runs literally thousands of times, so it will stick eventually. *As long as you're putting the work in*
