Is it necessarily "wasting everybody's time" to give critical feedback on education or professional education? I was a teacher in higher education for over 25 years and am aware of evidence-based practice. I too taught in secondary settings and higher education. It is a lost opportunity to reject feedback about experience and on-going research in any field of endeavor. As you know new literature about any subject evolves. So too constructive feedback about it. I believe knowledge is co-constructed by all involved in its development. Above all, intellectual humility is essential to understand that nothing is wasted for those engaged in the experience of knowledge creation. The ego can and often is a negative barrier in educators' self-reflective work. Hope my response was not too much of a waste of time reading, and good luck with your education RPG.

This does look interesting. It's nice to have more mid-length scenarios/campaigns, not just one-shots or giant epics.

Just a quick correction - the Sector Construction Guide was released in 2022, before Rim Expeditions. Great review of this book - I hadn't considered adding it to my collection before, but now I will be.

It is, but I also think it is handled really well from the Keeper side. I won't say much else, because I don't want to post spoilers. But I will say that a Keeper doesn't have to worry about a group slogging their way through every little area of the ship. It is well-designed.

@@RPGImaginings oh, that sounds indeed very handy. not surprised as Chaosium is really top notch in such thing with options, references etc. only have seen a similar quality in City of Mist and The Dark Eye. (which all are my faves fittingly) as it sounds, you will do a proper review of it (/the rest)? i would be interest. i have such a long list of things i want to get, i have to start seeing what tickles me most. so an idea what plot (spoilers) is about. but no stress :) btw as always a great video.

Well it's slightly better than the previous Mongoose books, but still complete rubbish compared to the D&D rules books, which are all gorgeously presented and illustrated. Personally I still prefer the old Classic traveller books, their b&w line art, the ship designs etc all were much better, more attractive more inspired. These new Mongoose books feature unprofessional art and really poor ship and vehicle designs that do nothing to inspire your imagination. There isnt enough detail in the descriptions either to get the imagination flowing or crunchy mechanics/data for us old fans. Even the old classic b&w space ship plans were much much better. The old classic Traders and Gunboats book is one of the best Traveller products ever made imo. And the old IISS files - superb illustrations and plans that really inspired me. These plans are rubbish in comparison - basic, empty and unimaginative. Poor attempt at a rehash with not enough art or information to justify its very high price (£10 more than the equivalent D&D book). Everytime I look at these new books they really depress me they are so poorly designed. And they ALWAYS have errata. No matter how many times Mongoose do they they are always wrong - this one has whole ship plan that is wrong. How the hell? Mongoose just annoy me. I would liketo say it's all flash and no substance but the book has not even got flashy graphics. It all just so .... mediocre.

I have been playing Traveller for 40+ years. I am not super thrilled with every Terran species being uplifted.... In my games no Orca/ Dolphins etc ... Only Vargr / Humans for Terra + the other 4 recognized primary races. With T5 Marc Miller gives you a rules set to build your own sophonts if you wish....

I have little interest in mech settings, but I have to admit that this one grabs my attention. I like that it seems to be less a tactical wargame than others, and it looks like a slightly fresh take on a post-apocalyptic setting. I might have to give this one a try.

RuneQuest starter set has the same setup but recommends I read the rules and then the world book before this but I come to find out you should read book 3 first. I'm better if I play the game first then read the rules so this is what I'm going to do. I can only read so many rules that don't make sense yet before I fall asleep.

I had runequest in the 1980s as a kid... and just got the 4e last week and watching everything I can. Didn't get the strater set but nearly all the books. Starting by reading The Glorantha Sourcebook... explain the world history, etc. I want to get into the what's what before even looking deeply at the system. Thanks for your video, I'll be watching all of them (already watched the character creation ones). I subscribed but I doubt you are still making Rune Quest content ;)

Interesting. I'll have to check this out at some point. An Arthurian novel with a different take that I really enjoyed was the YA book Here Lies Arthur by Philip Reeve. Agreed on the sort of pointlessness of being precious about particular interpretations. If I ever get Pendragon to the table, I think my plan would be to really ramp up the surreal, fantastical side of it, as opposed to the more "Historic" side of things. More The Green Knight (2021) than the attempted historic interpretation of King Arthur (2004). It's odd that I'm not generally as into Fantasy, but when I'm thinking of running Historic Fantasy (Pendragon, Ars Magica, etc.) I often contemplate leaning much heavier into the weird, mystical, magical, and strange. The Ars Magica game I did a bunch of prep work for a few years back would have leaned far more into Brothers Grimm vibes than Name of the Rose.

Still want to grab that wallet. It took me years to talk myself into buying the Masks prop boxed set. So, we'll see. I'm curious about that Musketeers book. The cover art looks AI, which I found very off-putting. Not sure if it is, but it set off some bells. Extra curious because it's co-written or something by Claudia Christian, which is so weird.
@RPGImaginings

Cover Art by James Churchhill, who is very well renowned in multiple industries. I can't definitively say AI is a "no," but this blog post describes that a cover can take him 40-50 hours to illustrate and that he builds his own layering in his pieces, so my gut says no AI. He's just eerily good, I think.

Not sure. The timing on this is rotten, which is part of many reasons why people are upset. And now he has been nominated for EnNies, further pissing people off. He has never taken real responsibility for the situation. He needs to hire a public relations specialist if he expects any future in the hobby. It seems like he's thinking people are just going to give him a pass on this. If he does, he is gravely mistaken. In my opinion, Justin's writing seems to show a guy who is a little full of himself, and that is affecting his decision-making. Unpopular opinion: "RPG famous" is not "famous." People will remember his disenfranchising of a historical luminary in the hobby way more than they will remember his writing.
