I'm definitely a classic, 1920s era fan. But Gaslight is a solid second place.

Looked forward to your review of this and would love to see any other gaslight reviews/videos you do. So far we've stuck to doing the 20's setting but suppose we branch out and try a different era at some point. Modern has zero appeal to me but some of the earlier eras sound to be really great to run CoC in. Invictus seems to be the frontrunner but to be next to do but open to considering Gaslight which I've been on the fence about.

I lived near 68 Westerlo Street in Albany NY for some years. Today it is a plain 19th c. house cut into apartments - but back in the 20's the street had fallen on hard times & would soon be part of a prostitution district.

fabulous conversation. Especially liked seeing the interview flipped. Great (and very interesting answers) you had to James' questions. Especially regarding creativity and new players. While I've played RPG's for many years, it wasn't until I decided to try Call of Cthulhu and my wife decided to try it and has loved it. First time ever playing an RPG. Not being more into more combat related games, and (sadly) not finding the sci-fi exploratory nature of Traveller of any interest but the investigative kind of game with the fascinating historical backdrop of the '20's? She has LOVED it. Really neat to see her grow.. her creativity blossom if you will. Learning how to role-play.. to act. Really cool and at James. You had me (raises hand as an idiot 'murican') hitting the Wiki page for New Caledonia. A place I really didn't know about. Gotta love CoC always learning something. Oh and in case you are reading the comments here. Absolute love your spots on the Stream of Chaos. Learned a LOT watching your videos, Keeper and player wise.

What? no. Not Traveler Traps. I am sad that this Old School volume is half as thick as the other ones. I will probably back all the volumes. I have not taken off the shrink wrap yet, is the original book reprinted in the volume? or is it just the updated content with the appropriate essays?
@RPGImaginingsАй бұрын
I have filed an official Referee Spoiler Warning™ that there will be traps inside the Ancients Sites. They will not be Gygaxian GOTCHA Auto-Death Traps™. :) Yeah, I'm not sure how this compares with overall page layout to the older books, but it is certainly a modernized layout and not a straight reprint. I think that many of the trap images are originals? I honestly don't know, because I didn't even comprehend how deep the stable of originals was until this got close to fulfillment.
@matthewconstantine5015Ай бұрын
I used to enjoy reading the Grimtooth's books when I worked in a game store. But I was never going to use any of them. In hindsight, I could imagine taking pieces of the traps. But usually the full thing was just overkill upon overkill.

Yep, highly reminiscent of the "You Didn't Read My Mind, You Damn Fool!" Era of Dungeoneering.

It is a good place to start though. I have usually avoided kobolds or gnomes because of their trap use.

That was an interesting look at Pendragon. Would love to see how it plays in a less scripted environment, but I probably still get it, just because it is Arthurian Legends. 👍
@JarethDuLacАй бұрын
Been enjoying this. Bit concerned the 'quest' is a bit light on gameplay. But they've done a good job introducing Arthurian legends. So that's a positive.
@JarethDuLacАй бұрын
Not a lot of dice rolling it would seem. Sure it is an interesting look at Arthurian legend, but seem a bit light on gameplay. Especially for a starter set quest.

Super interested in this game. Seems like a good fit for a solo experience, especially if you pair it with Mythic. (assuming there aren't already systems in place to assist with solo games.)

At least we also got Wonderland. While I'd probably run it more like the stories, with Peter being as much threat to all sides as anything else mixed with Hook, wait till my players have to fight Rufio! I do love his ideas and have been making plans for younger players.

I'm interested in Yig. Is there any lore as to what motivates cultists of Yig, considering that he seems mostly partial to the protection of snakes? Are there any colors (such as robes) that might be associated with Yig? I haven't found much online yet.

Is it necessarily "wasting everybody's time" to give critical feedback on education or professional education? I was a teacher in higher education for over 25 years and am aware of evidence-based practice. I too taught in secondary settings and higher education. It is a lost opportunity to reject feedback about experience and on-going research in any field of endeavor. As you know new literature about any subject evolves. So too constructive feedback about it. I believe knowledge is co-constructed by all involved in its development. Above all, intellectual humility is essential to understand that nothing is wasted for those engaged in the experience of knowledge creation. The ego can and often is a negative barrier in educators' self-reflective work. Hope my response was not too much of a waste of time reading, and good luck with your education RPG.

@RPGImaginings3 ай бұрын
It is, but I also think it is handled really well from the Keeper side. I won't say much else, because I don't want to post spoilers. But I will say that a Keeper doesn't have to worry about a group slogging their way through every little area of the ship. It is well-designed.

Well it's slightly better than the previous Mongoose books, but still complete rubbish compared to the D&D rules books, which are all gorgeously presented and illustrated. Personally I still prefer the old Classic traveller books, their b&w line art, the ship designs etc all were much better, more attractive more inspired. These new Mongoose books feature unprofessional art and really poor ship and vehicle designs that do nothing to inspire your imagination. There isnt enough detail in the descriptions either to get the imagination flowing or crunchy mechanics/data for us old fans. Even the old classic b&w space ship plans were much much better. The old classic Traders and Gunboats book is one of the best Traveller products ever made imo. And the old IISS files - superb illustrations and plans that really inspired me. These plans are rubbish in comparison - basic, empty and unimaginative. Poor attempt at a rehash with not enough art or information to justify its very high price (£10 more than the equivalent D&D book). Everytime I look at these new books they really depress me they are so poorly designed. And they ALWAYS have errata. No matter how many times Mongoose do they they are always wrong - this one has whole ship plan that is wrong. How the hell? Mongoose just annoy me. I would liketo say it's all flash and no substance but the book has not even got flashy graphics. It all just so .... mediocre.

I have been playing Traveller for 40+ years. I am not super thrilled with every Terran species being uplifted.... In my games no Orca/ Dolphins etc ... Only Vargr / Humans for Terra + the other 4 recognized primary races. With T5 Marc Miller gives you a rules set to build your own sophonts if you wish....
