Nope. Miguel's realization about family isn't hollow. You see Miguel constantly feeling abandoned by his family for understandable reasons and pushing away his family members. You see the realization of Miguel seeing everything that Hector lost and how Hector walking away from his family cost him. As well Miguel realizing how greed & fame corrupted Ernesto De La Cruz and led to him making cruel decisions that ruined other people's lives. Miguel didn't simply make a choice out of pragmatism. If that was the case, Miguel could have just gotten Imelda to give him her blessing instead of trying to help Hector fix his relationship with his wife & descendants. You are purposefully leaving out information, events & explanations shown in the film to try to make your "arguments" look better. But anyone who has watched the film knows that you are being deceitful & underhanded. If you don't like the movie. Fine. Not everyone is going to like every movie. But you are literally taking the events of the movie out of context in your video and skipping important moments to make the movie look worse. To answer your questions. The Film is pretty clear that the living people have to remember you or hear your stories from those who knew you in life to prevent from being forgotten. Its made quite clear multiple times that you need someone living to have a photograph and / or ofrenda of you for you to visit the living world. You are blatantly nitpicking at this point honestly. As for whether the same photo rule back in ancient history or how it works in other religions. Let's be honest if you apply that logic to most fictional series, not just Coco. Then yes you would have "plot holes" in most other fictional series as well. That is pretty blatant nitpicking of the movie. The rule in and of itself makes sense and doesn't contradict itself. You are blatantly nitpicking and looking for any minor problems to attack the movie. Its clear that you didn't like the movie and you just wanted to look for any possible problems you could find to complain about. Another Problem with your video. You are literally taking the "famous" thing out of context. The Movie isn't trying to send the message that being famous is a good thing. Literally the opposite. The Movie clearly portrays the message that shouldn't let the allure of greed & fame go to your head and corrupt you. The One majorly famous character is blatantly evil and for all intents & purposes whether you are famous or not, you are still dead. Honestly there isn't a single fictional series that talks about how their supernatural aspects affect every country / religion / time period in all of mankind. You are just nitpicking there. Just be honest with yourself. You wanted to find problems to complain about.

I wonder if the very FACT that they overlaid the Mexican culture drove them into the cowardice not to criticize the systems they establish. I wonder if they got confused between what part of this was Mexican culture to be respected vs what part was just wrong and needed to be criticized, or if they feared the audience wouldn't be able to delineate this. It makes your decision to strip the Mexican lens from your analysis all the more respectable. I felt questioning and very slightly off-put at first, but your reasoning was sound and put me at ease; but now I appreciate it more. I think Disney may have been too afraid of looking like they were attacking Mexican culture, when the actual things that would/should be attacked here are not even part of Mexican culture-- a delineation they could have made for themselves if they did better research and understood that the oppressive system they created was IMPOSED UPON how actual Mexican culture/belief works, a white thing outfitted in Dia de los Muertos get-up and garb.

yeah i really didnt like this film. the suggestion towards the two male MC's being into each other is far more interesting than anything happening when Rikako's is mentioned. she really contributes nothing to the story. shes simply and completely infuriating whenever she appears on screen. its impossible to feel any sympathy given how much of an arrogant prick she is. and yet, for some reason, these two perfectly decent men end up falling for her. probably the worst thing about the whole story was how they tried SO hard to hype up Rikako as a character who has flaws and all that but she ends up being so irrelevant to the viewers.

Watching your review made me realise that the film had lot of potential. I really wish we could see some kind its spin off, in which things happened otherwise. (Though Yutaka was clearly straight and nothing could have worked out between them but anyway)

This is a good take, the movie left a horrible aftertaste in my mouth by trying to casually gloss over the fact that the happy ending literally just applies to the MC's. Nothing significant really happened in the world building, so what point did the movie serve? What was the moral of the story? Be remembered or be curbstomped? Without setting a precedent for improval within the worldbuilding, why bother applying all of that moralizing? To tell the audience that there is no hope and you're _boned?_ ...sorry.

They could have turned that around and made it so that the Calacas are the people who died with regrets and are therefore not yet ready to move on to the afterlife and linger in some sort of limbo. So Hector would be around because he died before he could see his family again and Ernesto remained because the guilt of having murdered his friend for fame. It could have been a story about letting go, atonement, forgiveness, these things, instead of being about illegal immigration and wealth inequality persisting beyond the grave.

"Pass as white" is a horrible awful thing for anyone to have to say. As a trans person that always has to wonder if I'll ever "pass" as a woman, for fear of being denied service in many establishments, treated like a second rate human, or even denied going to the bathroom, I'm closer than most in my country to understanding this, but even that doesn't hold a candle to being born somewhere, and basically being told you will never be able to leave. That's morally criminal and I hope that this video inspires everyone capable of changing that to do their part in doing so.

35:00 This is why you should live in the country side and become an expert in herbs. The cities are like a beacon of insanity, egotism, and stupidity on this earth. Hell, there is more slavery and more violence now today there was even in the medieval ages. That's what happens when you think you are better and above your ancestors, you drown yourself in smoke and mirrors even when the walls are rotting and caving in around you. Anyways, good video, thanks for reading.

30:49 Because they could never speak to themselves verbally in a way they could connect with each other, when you strip away Ellinor's ability to speak and requires Merida to help her, Ellinor is able to see things through the different eyes, she lived her whole thinking about tradition and a stale way of thinking while Merida loved going to the wild because she felt free from responsability, the scene where Ellinor hunts fish is an example of her starting to understand why Merida does not like to be controlled and told what to do, she feels a sense of freedom she never felt before, which is why she is so open in the end of the movie and why the other three agreed, in the whole movie she was seen as the authority, her word was the law.

3:35 One theory to answer that is collective coercive threat. (People who cheat society via stealing/lying getting punished by the masses) The easier it is for higher powers to control the masses (invention of throwing weapons, to armor, to guns etc) the greater the population and state can grow due to forcing people to cooperate in one big system. Police is part of that system, therefor it comes up often in popular culture for that coercive threat (police) to act upon our protagonists. Because if you want to change something about your world, you'll inevitably go up against that coercive threat to make a difference. Combined with artists leaning towards anti-authority, the greatest symbol of local authority will often be police. So when you want to teach children anti-authority messaging, you use police to demonstrate that higher powers don't always have your best interests in mind. Also they make for good jokes for the adults in the audience. That Shrek scene kills me EVERY single time. Thanks for reading!

This film has just uncovered a deep trauma I kind of slid under the carpet and forgot about lol My mother and I also have a complicated relationship, where both of us have made terrible mistakes and wronged each other (as humans do, but it's still shameful). When I first watched Brave with my parents, I was so enthralled: a fiery rebellious young girl with long curly hair who does archery and loves adventuring - that's literally everything I aspired to be! And when we discussed the film, I hadn't even got to share my excitement. My mother started to complain about how disgustingly selfish Merida is, how the plot propagates children's unruliness and how bad overall the film was. I just sort of shut up and pretended to dislike the film so that I wouldn't get into any trouble... Both Elinor and Merida were in the wrong, but also in the right as well. Too bad my mother has a lot of trouble not focusing on other's wrongs only and being accountable for her own faults.

While I agree with what you said, I th8nk an argument could be made for an unintentional explanation for why a bear. The mom turning into a bear removes her from the context of "The graceful queen" she's entirely ungraceful. The fact that she is literally being removed from society demonstrates that society is the problem. Obviously they're not fixing society but they're realizing why it sucks.

I remember my dad took me to see this film for my 15th birthday, and I remember being so bewildered by how bad it was, especially because I was a huge Ghibli fan. It was unbelievably boring, and the two leads had such nonexistent chemistry. I had to gaslight myself for years that it wasn't really THAT bad and it was actually interesting and clever that the love interest was an unlikeable, bad person because I could not fathom there being a Ghibli movie I didn't like.

I have a hard time understanding what the characters are saying in the movie because of the heavy Scottish accents. And this is coming from someone who's great grandmother came to the United States from Scotland... I have a hard time understanding my own grandmother's accent. I have to really pay attention to what the characters are actually saying in this movie. This distracts me from the rest of the story telling because I become so hyper fixated on listening to the characters that it becomes such a chore to watch the movie. I really want to enjoy Brave, but I always find it frustrating when I watch it. I can appreciate the aspects of my Scottish heritage though. I laugh every time I see the Ralph Breaks the Internet scene with all the other Disney princesses not knowing what Merida is saying... I can relate to that conversation.

Taku somehwere in his mind knew this too...but sealed it off cuz his friend already declared he likes her....hence when his friend stated he always knew taku likes rikako...that short flashback of taku recollecting everymove she made on taku....and recollecting her as a girl and not his friends date....that double slap of rikako was frystration that taku cant accept her due to his friend....u all r too brainwashed lol

I actually DID like moments throughout the movie, including scenes where the mom was a bear, but mainly cuz it was cool to see the interactions between Merida and her mom change over the journey. Also loved the ending when they turned human again 😆 But yea, I’m not a huge animal movie fan in general so I get it, the full human scenes were better overall. I do remember the bear scenes vividly, but also I’m biased because I grew up on this movie & have probably watched it 50x ngl 😗

I came back to this video today and I wanted to say that while I don't deal with traveling to other countries, but I am from the US and my mom and brother travel to other countries with no issues all the time, I know what it's like to deal with a system where you have to go through hell, only to get rejected over and over, and that is the Social Security system in the US. It took me TEN YEARS and four denials to get disability benefits, and I had to get an attorney in the end despite having multiple doctors saying I was too disabled to work. They are constantly re-assigning cases and making people start from scratch every single time that happens. And their losing paperwork is so prolific and that's more of a rule that they WILL than they WON'T.

I don’t know, i always saw the bridge being the real deciding factor for who does and doesn't get to pass, like the border control has no effect on wether or not you can pass and more of just checks for you. It in no way negates the real world implications though and i don't intend to come off that way, i was just thinking of it the rules of this fictional/fantastical world

I mean take into consideration the fact that some people from third world Countries sh1t on streets, others believe women to be an accessory or a slave. With that in mind, aside of the bureaucracy stuff, why would a first world country want "those" people around ? *Unfortunate* is the fact, that Those people, are ready to bring all their problems with them to a " *Better Life* ", and *PRETEND* to be fitting, Rather than start Acknowledging that they bear a problem, and try fixing the problem. But nah, *RUN FOR THE BORDER* . Sure it sounds rough, but hey, in 9 out of 10 cases, who will be smuggling *Censored Stuff* , A white Doctor looking MF, or Hajim ? Or In 9 out 10 cases, who is going to steal stuff from a grocery store, A White Lawyer Looking MF, or Abdul ? And remember, The white Lawyer/Doctor Loking MF are actual Lawyers and Doctors While Hajim and Abdul can't even speak the language of the country they are trying to move into.
