Way to cold for me to take the mobility scooter out otherwise I'd be taking a wander around the parks and Hanley. It's Beautiful.

Why successive governments don’t divert foreign aid to National Heritage I’ll never understand. A lot of that money ends up in the wrong people’s pockets anyway ! Interesting video. Many thanks.

Very interesting article , thanks. It's especially interesting for me as direct ancestors of mine lived nextdoor at No 1, Clerk's Bank (as it's known in my family) in the late 19th century. You may have seen the name George Metcalfe in the 1881 and 1891 censuses. He was my great-great-grandfather on my mother's side. Like Isaac Clowes he was a widower by that time, living with his two daughters and a son Charles, who was my maternal grandmother's father. George had moved to Staffordshire from North Wales via Cheshire, and though he had started out as a miner he became a shopkeeper in Leek. No 1 was a grocery business and my grandmother remembered her aunts running the business when she was a child. It's interesting that there was a baker at No 2, because my great-grandfather Charles also became a baker, and had a shop from the 1880's to the 1920's in Belle Vue Road, where my grandmother Jane Metcalfe and her 5 siblings were born and brought up. I'm afraid that beyond this I know nothing of the history of No 1. It has the look and presence of a Georgian building and contrasts markedly with the cottages next to it doesn't it? I wonder if perhaps it too started life as a dwelling, as it occupies such a prominent position next to the church. I notice it has recently been renovated as a house.

We will never see architectural beauty like this again! When I think how unattractive modern homes can be today it makes me realise something must be done!

Tean is well over built with new houses, and they just keep building more with out any consideration for the flooding it causes, it’s all about money at the end of the day and who is making money out of it, disgusting 😡 well done for posting this, thanks from many of us in the area 👍

When making a claim against the council for pothole damage, on the form, they ask for your insurance details, this has a knock on effect for your future premiums! I am informed that they do not actually pay for claims from their own purse, but their insurance company foot the bill, thus putting up their insurance premiums thereafter, this is poor management of our taxes! As for suggestions on a solution, rip out the management structure and start again with people who care. Sorted... Angry from Stoke. Age 59..😅

A solar farm was built near where i grew up. It was tucked away so you'd never notice it. Still had green spaces and plenty of wildlife... but this new solar farm.... What on earth... I mean the landfill near Silverdale was approved and only recently it has had some action for closure. But it has has smelled so bad, worst then I've ever smelt it and I live like 5 miles away from it. I honestly feel like the government or whoever has to approve big plans that affect the residents of stoke do not care.... like who in the right mind allows a landfill so close to housing? So I wouldn't be surprised if the solar farm happens. I do feel for the farmers that work tirelessly to help feed us and get nothing in return and have to sell out...

Please, the A50 mentioned runs between Uttoxeter and Hatton, Derbyshire. It is a trunk road linking Leicester with Liverpool. Ashbourne is 15 miles to the north east and not and never has been on the A50.

Why not use the deercote as an open prison? Given the number of prisoner escapes from nearby Sudbury Open Prison and yes Sudbury does live up to its name it would impossible for the deercote to have a worst record?

Excellent video. You may also wish to note that during the late 1940s and prior to the building being used as a regional police driving school, Seighford Hall also served as the Staffordshire County Police Headquarters, long before its relocation to Weeping Cross, Baswich.

@TheRedHairedStokie Just rechecked myself. The County force leased Seighford Hall in January 1946, initially for the retraining of police officers returning from active war service. The Centre later became a general police training college before that too was relocated to Mill Meece in a former naval facility, whereupon it became a regional training facility. I think the police retained use of Seighford Hall for local recruitment alongside the Motor Training Centre which was set up in the late 1940's. The Motor Training Centre had relocated to Baswich House at Weeping Cross by the time my father undertook his advanced driver training in 1954. Apologies for any confusion.

I know this vampire story from a long time ago as I was friends with a kid who lived in that very house. I thought it was a cool story, but they told me never to bring it up as it would terrify his little brother and his family would get a little weird about the subject. They were eastern european too. I just thought it was made up at the time. until i found newspaper articles that corroborated it. Lovely living room and garden out back. The place also had a vibe to it at times.

Sadly, it seems, too few people value our heritage as you do. Luckily I visited The Leopard, walked the landings of the hotel and even the toilets were amazing. Unfortunately this decline is countrywide; made so by incompetent, greedy politicians too busy feathering their own nests.

I spent 6 months excavating here back in the 80s under lead archaeologist, Bill Klemperer. Heavy work, but a couple of us excavated one of the few skeletons that was painstakingly photographed and drawn at each stage before being bagged and sent to the museum.

Loved this. My nan and Granddad lived just up the road at no 3 Cheadle Road. I have passed this tiny burial yard many times when I was a child. It opened up my interest in Genealogy. My nan's home was the middle of the old Cross Keys pub , before it moved to the other end of the terrace in Cheadle Rd. Nan had cellar stairs that ran to nowhere - I loved to envisage the home as part of the original bar 😁
