Thanks! This is exactly what my 11YO daughter needs for a 1980s-themed audition next week. I still have some concert t-shirts from the 1980s, but they're too big for her so I suggested we cut the collar of another t-shirt instead. But while I saw a lot of them as a guy who was in high school and college in the 1980s, I had no idea how to actually make one.

Very cool music and yes, the 80's were awesome. I lived through them as a kid and teen and miss them all the time. It was truly was a revolutionary time for music, technology, fashion and more. Interesting side fact, time repeats. Today is a rehash of the 80s, the 80s were a rehash of the 50s and the 50s were a rehash of the 20s.

The two new characters introduced in this episode are the designated "Second Children" Eva pilot, Asuka Langley Soryu and Misato's former love interest, Ryoji Kaji (who if I'm not mistaken, also at least temporarily served as Asuka's guardian/handler back in Germany, just as Misato has "taken responsibility" for Shinji since episode two). Technically Eva Unit-02 was only jumping from one battleship to another during the battle sequence. As with the other Evangelions we've seen, they are incapable of flight without the support of specialized vehicles. If you might recall from the previous episode, Unit-01 was transported via the assistance of a rather large aircraft in order to quickly intercept the out of control Jet Alone robot.

New subscriber here. Been a serious fan of this anime since the late nineties. Amazing how the story and characters can pull me back in even after all these years. Also, it's always interesting to observe the reactions of someone new to the series. Hopefully this isn't a spoiler, but my personal take on the malfunctioning Jet Alone robot was that NERV's commander (Gendo) secretly ordered their head scientist (Ritsuko Akagi) to sabotage it in order to discredit the entire project. I don't think this was ever explicitly stated, but I think it's heavily implied as earlier in the episode there's a conversation about budgetary issues in regards to repairing the Evas and the costs involved to dispose of Angel remains, etc. The people behind the JA project were trying to compete with NERV for the role of fending off future Angel attacks, going so far as revealing classified info pertaining to A.T. Fields and a berserk Unit-01 during their presentation in order to make NERV look bad. I think part of what the episode was trying to convey was that the people in charge of NERV are not above engaging in some rather underhanded practices to eliminate their competition and continue to receive funding.
