I heard he was turned down by The Fabulous Thunderbirds. They said he wasn't tuff... something. Can't remember exactly what it was.

Remember the day he died and hearing that he had passed away. A sad day. Thought I heard at the time he wanted to get back to his girlfriend, so he took that earlier plane.

I’ve seen Eric live twice and wasn’t alive to have seen Stevie. SRV said that Eric Johnson was the best guitar player he knew. Eric’s tone was very VERY mellow in this recording, and he blazes through his minor scale runs at lightning speed. He is only drowned out by the shit quality of the recording.

This is unlike anythign I have ever heard Stevie play, and I've heard 100s of hours, since 2000, bootlegs..all kinds of recordings. It's like it's not even the same guy! Out of phase pickups? Octave divider? What is that sound? Man.
@countvlad88453 ай бұрын
I think SRV swept it. Eric had puffy hair and a nice suit, which didn't help to really get down and dirty. SRV was like a pig in mud -- loving it and blowing mud bubbles. And SRV had the louder, grittier tone. Eric was there, but not cutting it like Stevie. It's all good. And the day after, something else could have happened...

I truly hope that he and Lenny are in the afterlife together. She was the love of his life until the bitter end. F*ck that gold digging teen girl, Janna
@JeanVaughan-Staley5 ай бұрын
When Janna met Stevie, she acknowledged she saw the cocaine and whiskey backstage, but he continued to use substances for another 7 months until he collapsed and made the decision to stop. She enjoyed their excursions together and the lifestyle he provided, but as time passed she shifted her focus off of him and onto her career. She had been modeling in Dallas, but left to share an apartment in NY with other models, until Stevie leased one for her. “Home base” was still Dallas for Stevie, where he got his main sobriety support from daily meetings at the Aquarius Chapter of AA. Dallas Sound Lab recording studio which he frequently used, was located nearby. It’s been well-documented he was uncomfortable being alone, and in a 1990 interview in the Dallas Morning News, he stated “I’m not well”. He admitted it was a daily struggle to stay clean and an author noted he carried a high risk for relapse. More than ever he needed a companion who would be available when he needed one, but Janna made herself less available and was content leaving him to his own devices. She stated he had to learn to not use substances to numb any pain he was feeling, and that it was “Ok to sit in a funk”. However, “sitting in a funk” made him vulnerable to relapse. She acknowledged they had fights and their relationship had it’s “ups and downs”. His prior marriage legally ended in June 1988 and by her own admission, Stevie asked her “many times” to marry him. She relied heavily on his financial assistance and knew it could be terminated, if she continued to delay his proposals. After finally agreeing, she then blamed her refusal to set a wedding date on their busy schedules. But by all accounts, Stevie would have eagerly accommodated. As a courtesy, Stevie asked her father for her hand in marriage, but the real issue had been persuading Janna. He had the apartment lease prepaid through the end of 1990. Pursuant to Texas law, Martha and Jimmie inherited Stevie’s estate in equal parts. Although his family extended the lease for another year after he passed, Janna filed unsuccessful lawsuits to collect more assets from his estate. Since Stevie’s death, she has tried to take credit for his sobriety and seek acclaim for her association with him. Without a doubt, Stevie was clearly committed to her. Problem is, she was more devoted to her career than she was to him.

Stevie loved Lenny, but had hurt her too many times with his infidelities and the trust between them had been broken. Stevie had stated in an interview that between the years 1984-1985, he estimated he was home for no more than 30 days in total. Lenny occasionally joined Stevie on tour, but she had a job and other responsibilities at home, while Stevie was working to pay off debt to his management. The absence of a spouse for that length of time is hard for any marriage to survive, but Stevie found ways to cope, albeit outside of matrimony. In the midst of her own addiction, Lenny was unable to cope and started looking for companionship elsewhere. Stevie met Janna while touring in March 1986, but severed their relationship during the Summer to reconcile with Lenny. They were unable to work things out and he resumed his relationship with Janna in the Fall of that year. Stevie was Janna’s best friend, as well as a provider and supporter of her modeling career, but he wanted more of a commitment from her than she was willing to give. He asked her repeatedly to marry him and was continually rebuffed. She eventually agreed, but stalled by refusing to set a wedding date. Many musicians have a special admiration for Lenny, as so many have relied on the generosity of a woman who supported them while they were struggling in the clubs, as Stevie had done. Janna was fortunate to arrive on the scene, just in time to share the financial success that Stevie had to offer.

Sounds exactly how youd expect a love song for a woman youre no longer with would sound. Theres so much angst, resentment and aggression in his playing compared to the original. You can feel whatbhe feels thru his music and I truly believe he died young because he lived and felt twice as much as an ordinary person in his 30 years.

For those who don't know, "Bwady" was an alter-ego Stevie would sometimes assume. It seems like he only did it around friends. It was never part of his performances. And I don't know that it ever came up in interviews or anything. Just seems to have been a funny character he would conjure up for a laugh, and probably only funny to inside people who knew him.
