The most common path to a career in ultrasonography is to start with an associate's degree and then move on to a bachelor's degree. However, not all specializations are offered in schools, so you may need to learn your specialization through a research or progressive institution. Attending conferences and seminars is a must for anyone who wants to specialize in ultrasonography.

I was really hoping you’d talk about nausea in pregnancy and how to deal with motion sickness making it worse during flight? And also if that counts as a complication?

Hi there! One of the best ways that may help with all of the info, since it's a lot to take in, is to use this online link: ppv.geneticsupportfoundation.org/. For your specific scenario, since the NIPT result returned negative, if you click on NPV (which stands for Negative Predictive Value), enter your age, then choose the trisomy that you want to get more information on (you can do a calculation for 13, 18, and 21), and then click calculate. This will give you a very nice explanation on how best to interpret your negative NIPT results even in the face of those ultrasound findings. It can also help you to have this information to further visit with your provider. For the finding of the CPC, a great link to review is www.ucsfhealth.org/education/faq-choroid-plexus-cysts. For the finding of the EIF, here is a handout that can be helpful as well www.drlexihill.com/EIF. Hope this is helpful!

A pregnant person is paying the provider/hospital for a service, most likely through the person's paid insurance program. The person/family has a right to ask whatever appropriate questions they need to make a decision that is good for them. If a person told a hairstylist how they like their hair cut and the stylist said, "I don't cut hair that way", go somewhere else. Providers are not gods.

Hi there, thank you for a great video. I'd like to know if it would be ok to travel to thailand in second trimester? A friend told me i should avoid heat exposure and being in the sun too long. My feeling is that with enough hydration and sunblock, it should be fine? And highest risk in first trimester right?
@drlexihill
@drlexihill 29 күн бұрын
So glad the video was helpful! I would definitely check out the download at www.drlexihill.com/travelchecklist to be sure you have some of that basic info (which is to always talk to your provider about your specific pregnancy so they can further guide/answer your questions about travel). Hydration is super important during pregnancy, and it's a good rule of thumb to aim for 64oz of water daily. For sunscreen, especially during pregnancy, mineral sunscreens are preferred (look for the ones that have just these TWO INGREDIENTS...titanium dioxide and zinc oxide). Check out this video for more information on choosing a sunscreen...there are so many out there! kzbin.info/www/bejne/jGScg4Vjdq2naq8si=npx0nFM1XCWtxjAr

I would look at the information below this video, which has helpful downloads and resources. One you can print off and take to your OB provider's office is at www.drlexihill.com/EIF. This will help you to visit with your provider and ask the right questions. For example, it would be important to discuss something we call "serum aneuploidy screening" specifically in the form of "cell free DNA" (which is sometimes referred to as Non Invasive Prenatal Testing, or NIPT). Hope this is helpful!

@@carlosb.9032 that sounds like great advice. I keep going back and forth with what I want to do. But knowing I want to be a wife and mother (currently no kids or relationship), I want to look at careers that will be versatile also optional for me to work from home or be hybrid so I can be there to support my children and husband when need be. Doing echo I have to be On -Call , hardly ever any Clinics for this because when ppl have heart issues they’re gonna go to the hospital anyways so I knew this career wouldn’t be my last. I know I love talking and explaining things, been going back and forth btw Public Health, Applied mathematics (a good skill I have, but lots of jobs require a masters to PhD- I need something that requires a bachelors to start and have the option to move up if you want), and I believe I’m settling on Cloud Computing (gonna find a Consulting role where I can be fulfilled by connecting with customers).

When discussing "People who could be involved in the delivery that could be supportive", Lisa mentions doulas, midwives, OB/GYNs, and laborists/hospitalists, and you mention MFMs. The glaring forgotten professionals not mentioned are the L&D nurses, a real slap in the face. We spend more time supporting the laboring/delivering woman than probably anyone else. And many of us are certified in inpatient obstetrics as well as EFM. Lisa began as one of us! I really enjoyed the podcast until that point. Teresa Russett, BSN, RNC-OB, C-EFM.

I came out blue because of my mother’s decisions while pregnant with me. She thought I was going to be half black and her white father would be severely unaccepting. So she purposefully got into fights, drank, drugged to abort me. Everything failed, obviously, and here I am. Half Asian and white 🙄. My grandfather loved me but was still his racist self. I struggled in school but there was many factors on why. Mom remained an alcoholic and pill abusing absent parent; I got put into state custody only to a year later be adopted by my grandfather who too, was reliant on alcohol. He was a hard working man though. In his 60’s with two grown daughters failing at life and easing one of their offspring must have taken a toll. I lived in solitude, for he would never let me have phone calls, boyfriends and occasionally I could hang with girls but not often. He never helped me in school and there a sank. He passed away when I turned 19 and I found my mom dead the morning I was off to school (18yr). 34 years later I have my own beautiful family with to two girls and a new baby boy doing well. I have been diagnosed with adhd and so has my daughters but we’re working through it together. I have problems with retaining information making it difficult to work but I mask it so well, my work place never finds that part of me out. I’m lucky to have a likable personality and my emotional intelligence is somewhat above average. I wonder if I have fetal alcohol syndrome though. I feel I am different than everyone around me in a bad way but It’s not fully obvious on how. Sorry to dump that. I hope it helps someone out there. And thank you for taking the time to read if you made it this far. Life is short but it doesn’t have to be shorter 💜

It is a great idea to review your specific OB history with your current OB provider to get an individualized answer. In general, a history of placental abruption alone does not mean that a person cannot take aspirin in the future. Here are some of the best places to go for resources to learn about aspirin and to open up the conversation about aspirin use in pregnancy: 1) Free handout to print off to start the conversation with your provider www.drlexihill.com/aspirin 2) Learn more about preeclampsia and take a quiz through the Aspirin Educator www.preeclampsia.org/aspirin 3) ACOG in depth information www.acog.org/clinical/clinical-guidance/committee-opinion/articles/2018/07/low-dose-aspirin-use-during-pregnancy

Thank you❤ is it also possible that an ectopic pregnancy test be negative?
@drlexihill
@drlexihill 2 ай бұрын
When evaluating if someone is pregnant (ectopic or not) there are two general ways we test for this…besides an ultrasound, of course! One is qualitative (positive or negative), and that is the urine pregnancy test. The second is quantitative (results as a value), and this is with a blood test called a quantitative beta hCG. If someone is pregnant (ectopic or not) the quantitative beta hCG value will be above zero. As for a urine pregnancy test, when someone is pregnant (ectopic or not) it will be “positive” when blood levels of the beta hCG are above a certain threshold (for most pregnancy tests this is a very low threshold). I hope this helps!

Aspirin is recommended to help decrease someone's risk of developing preeclampsia (not as a treatment once preeclampsia is diagnosed). So, for people who are diagnosed with preeclampsia, they would be a candidate to take aspirin in a future pregnancy.

Is a large EIF that is a large as the heart a possible tumor? Could that be wrong? Is that necessarily chromosomal abnormality if a DNA blood test prior showed no problems?
@drlexihill
@drlexihill 5 ай бұрын
Great questions! An EIF looks different on ultrasound than a cardiac "tumor", or something like what we call a rhabdomyoma. When there is a clear ISOLATED EIF, and the screening blood test called cell free DNA (sometimes called Non Invasive Prenatal Testing, abbreviated NIPT) results as low risk, then an EIF is reported as a normal variant. Hope that helped to answer some questions! Including a link to download a helpful handout with more information and questions to ask an OB provider about an isolated EIF. www.drlexihill.com/EIF
