Solid video. Here are a few additional steps to consider including but nothing major 1. Only need to remove the bottom bolt then you can swing the caliper up and hang with a Bungie. Check brake hose is not twisted/pinched 2. Torque bolt to 49 ft lbs 3. Check brake fluid reservoir isn't full before pressing in caliper 4. Add grease to bottom and top of each pad where it contacts the clip. Not sure exact purpose but watched in other videos. Maybe just helps it slide in. Danger is getting grease on the pad surface so definitely could skip this one

@@RyanPedersen what about retracting the brake caliper piston once you’ve added newer brake pads(which are thicker than the worn ones), wouldn’t the piston also be more outward to compensate for better breaking thus needing to be pushed back in
@RyanPedersen19 күн бұрын
@genod7045 agree 💯 . looks like the video demonstrated this when the c clamp was used to press in the piston with the old caliper. Only issue would be if the fluid reservoir didn't have space for the fluid being pressed in. Guessing that's a pretty rare occurrence

If you don’t have a specialty turning tool you can jam a 3/8” ratchet extension into the center of the piston and turn it

More often than not, those tabs will break especially on a high mileage. Take a pocket screwdriver and lift the other end and then remove it. Works most of the time. Hondas and toyotas are notorious for breaking those clips. If the lock does break, use a dab of silicone between the 2 to keep it locked

You’re 100 percent right about how brittle those tabs can get, that’s also a great way to remove it if broken

I changed my rear brake pads easy enough. No special tools needed, just a large screw driver or pry bar for twisting the brake caliper pistons. You push and twist at the same time to get the pistons to recede into the calibers. I used silicone spray on the boots on the calipers to insure they didn't get twisted when receding the caliper pistons.
