There is absolutely nothing mysterious about Biblical "tongues" - and there is only *one* type - when referring to something spoken, they are nothing more than real, rational language(s); usually, but not always, unknown to those listening to them, but always known by the speaker(s) - it’s their native language (in some cases, it is a language the speaker has learned). Indeed, there are absolutely _no_ Biblical references to “tongues” that do not refer to, and cannot be explained in light of, real rational language(s), ‘Tongues’ (read, *‘languages’* ) - the divine gift, is the God/Holy Spirit given ability to effortlessly learn to speak and be understood through real-language barriers. It is not xenoglossy (as many people incorrectly assume), nor is it the self-created non-cognitive non-language utterance of what certain Christian denominations are producing today (modern tongues-speech). _Nowhere_ in the Bible is modern tongues-speech advocated or evidenced. 1Cor. 14:2 is perhaps *the* quintessential verse used by many to “evidence” modern tongues-speech in the Bible. The whole passage is talking about real, rational language. Let me use an analogy - If I attend a worship service in “East Haystack”, some remote town in the US out in the middle of nowhere, two things are going to be evident: one; there’s only going to be so many people at that service (i.e. there will be a finite given amount of people there) and two; the chances that anyone speaks anything *but* English is pretty slim to nil. If I start praying aloud in say Lithuanian, there’s no one at that service that’s going to understand a single word I’m saying. Even though I’m speaking a real language, no one _there_ will understand my “tongue”. That does not mean or imply that no one else understands Lithuanian; just no one at _that particular service._ In this sense, therefore, I am speaking _only to God,_ since he understands all languages. To everyone at the service, even though I’m praying in the Spirit (as defined further below), to the people listening to me, I’m still speaking “mysteries” - i.e. even though I’m praying as I ought, no one understands me. An idiomatic expression to say that no one has a clue what I’m saying as no one speaks my language. When one looks at the original Greek, the verb which is usually translated as “understandeth/understands” is actually the verb “to hear” in the sense of understanding what you’re hearing someone say. The verb is *not* “to understand”. That part of the verse is more properly “no one hears [him] with understanding”, i.e. no one listening to him understands what he’s saying. There is _nothing_ in this passage that suggests modern tongues-speech nor is there anything that even _remotely_ suggests that the speaker does not understand what he himself is saying. The Greek bears this out; it is the _listeners_ who do not understand, *not* the speaker - no matter how hard modern tongues-speakers want the speaker to also not understand…….unless the author of the text is a bad grammarian, it just isn’t there. “Praying in the Spirit” does _not_ refer to the words one is saying. Rather, it refers to how one is praying. In the three places it is used (Corinthians, Ephesians, and Jude), there is absolutely zero reference to 'languages' in connection with this phrase. “Praying in the Spirit” should be understood as praying in the power of the Spirit, by the leading of the Spirit, and according to His will.

Thanks for responding. In 1 Corinthians 14 the Apostle Paul addresses the use of an unknown tongue during a church service. 1 CORINTHIANS 14 13 Therefore let him who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret. 14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15 What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding. 16 Otherwise, if you bless with the spirit, how will he who occupies the place of the uninformed say "Amen" at your giving of thanks, since he does not understand what you say? 17 For you indeed give thanks well, but the other is not edified. • Paul says when I pray in a tongue, my spirit benefits but not my mind because it does not understand the words. During a church service Paul encouraged believers to pray and sing in tongues for their personal edification but said that it was necessary to pray and sing the understanding so that anyone listeners could also understand what was said and be edified. For this reason, a person who speaks in tongues should pray for the ability to interpret.

If we don't love one another with action, or if we don't love our neighbor with action, our faith is dead, according to the scriptures. [ Matthew 25:31-46 ] [ Luke 10:25-37 ] [ James chapter 2 ] [ 1 John 3:18 ] [ Titus 1:16 ] Though we speak with tongues of men and of angels, and have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and have faith to remove mountains, and bestow all our goods to feed the poor, and have no love, it profited us nothing. [ 1 Corinthians chapter 13 ]

"Historical fact"? It isn't a fact EVEN within your own "gospels." There are four irreconciable accounts of it. The only thing that's unexpected is that Christians NEVER put them side-by-side and evaluate them with even the amount of acumen by which they choose what car to buy next.
@jenna24312 жыл бұрын
But Martha who ALSO sat at "Jesus" (NOT HIS REAL NAME) feet clearly didn't believe in a heaven or a hell by her answer that he would be resurrected at the last day. And there's no way of knowing if this Mary is the same as the anointing episode so you're taking a mega-ton's worth of creative license there, but then that's what you Christians do, all the time, every time. Yours is an entire religion of embroidery. How come "The Word of God" didn't write down ONE WORD of his own teachings, like so many others did - Aristotle, Confucius, Lao Tzu, all those guys managed to also find time to preserve their own teachings and not depend on ANONYMOUS sources DECADES LATER to drum up some enhanced legends and stories - MYTHOLOGY.

The Bethsaida miracle By D. Keith Mano (National Review, April 21,1997) [snip] So Jesus heals the blind man for a second time. "After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly." As far as I can judge, this is irrefutable evidence that a miracle did occur at Bethsaida. Back in 30 A.D. the blind did not often receive sight: there were few, if any, eye surgeons and seldom a decent miracle-worker. No shill in the crowd could have faked it all by pretending to be blind -- because only someone recently given his sight would see "men as trees, walking," would see the Cubist jumble that Virgil told Oliver Sacks about. A faker, not knowing about post-blind syndrome, would have reported that Jesus had given him perfect vision. [snip]

I'm not sure about the bible as in somehow it just doesn't sound very credible at all. I have these questions please. If god knows everything which I understand from: Matthew 10:30 But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. and John 3:20 For whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything. Then why would god make his perfect world and 'his special' creatures (people) to have the concept of sin to separate him and us. This very beginning makes no logical sense to me. If he knows everything that will happen before it happens, then he had to know his creation would fail before he made it and us. So the bible says that he made us all knowing that we will come into existence and then fail him. So why did he do that? Apparently he didn't want that but knew it would happen? God knows everything so he absolutely knew it would fail at the very beginning. This really doesn't make sense to me. I know the whole point of the fallen idea of mankind because of sin means we need Jesus to save us, but this seems very odd. I understand it's "man's sin" that breaks everything but one step before this, he created us and knew ahead of this that it would fail. Likewise he knew it would fail again after the flood. So could he have made work that differently rather than killing all those men, women and children - not to mention the animals? Back to my initial point: If god knew this all in the very start then why didn't he make a different world? Then there would be no separation of man and god, which he didn't want to happen. He would not need to send himself or his son (it's all the same in some denominations) to earth to sacrifice himself to himself basically to get over the fact he made it all wrong at the start. I must be seeing this very differently to you so please tell me why this makes no sense to me.

Yes, God did know in advance what would happen when He created us. But God wanted people who would love Him because they choose to and not because they are forced to. In the beginning God gave Adam and Eve one commandment, “Do not eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil.” He did not tell them not to eat of the tree of life because it was always His plan for us to live with Him forever. But once sinned entered, the tree of life was removed so that we would not live forever in our sin and be separated from Him. But God is good. He sent His Son Jesus to die for our sins, so that those who want a way out of sin can still live forever. He does know your heart, and mine, and He knows we both will continue to do wrong because we are not perfect. But He still loves us anyway and 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Jesus came to give us life and hope. 1 Peter 1:3-4, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to His great mercy He has a caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading kept in heaven for you.” His plan for you is a really great future in heaven…if you choose to accept it.

@@evangel4sq Thanks for the reply. I used to believe this as well as I was indoctrination as a child. Now after much research I am no longer convinced. Please could you tell me how you actually know any of this story that was told to you is actually true. Have you got any good evidence for there claims or are you just repeating back to me what you have been told to the point where you believe it. You see my problem is now even of I wanted to believe this I cannot. It actually doesn't make any sense. So in the story this god that knows the future and knows his first two creatures will stuff it up. So he deliberately make this garden and trees and people this way. He knows that they will do this. He knows everything. So his plan was not to make a perfect garden but to make a world full of "poop" and give people a false start? Really the story itself actually is not sensible. He knew the serpent would come and he let it. He knew the lady would take the bite as he made her to do that. He knew that the man would follow and he did. Then the god got all huffy and chucked them out? That was his plan, sounds mean to me. The the woman has painful childbirth as a punishment? Come on just think the story is bonkers. God knew all this and made it work that way, so we would then have this eternal sin? Then he sends himself to earth to kill himself to himself then that part just goes back to heaven so no sacrifice at all. Then that makes up for the garden he built to go wrong? Really? Sorry it's almost comical now. So please tell me how I've got this so wrong. Many thanks Gray

THE GOSPEL THAT LIVES FOREVER: MAY GOD BLESS THIS FAITHFUL GATHERING Blood coming from all over his body and NAKED hanging on that cross like torture weapon! What a Lord and God and Savior! He had to do it. HE is God the Son and only His body and blood could pay the sins price of ALL ever! 1 John 2:1-2. God has richly blessed you. भगवान आपको भरपूर आशीर्वाद दें।. Subscribed. God knew your faithful praise ministry from before the world was made! Ephesians 1:1-14. Oh Lord bless this channel; a haven for your blessings in Jesus Christ. I will pray for you and those gathered here.There is a Crown in Heaven awaiting all who faithfully share the Gospel of Jesus Christ and a soul is saved. ( "JESUS SAVES" below) 1 Thessalonians 2:19-20; Philippians 4:1. The Apostle Paul testified; Romans 1:16 "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek". This praise resounds across the earth: "Jesus is Lord and only He saves". 2 Samuel 22: 50 "Therefore I will praise you, O Lord, out of the countries, and I will praise your name." JESUS SAVES God the Son (Jesus Christ) has given us the gospel to share with the world. Mark 16: 15: "And He said unto them, Go into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." How can anyone hear the "good" news? Romans 10: 17 "Then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." (We receive the "word" in many ways. The "Word" is Jesus Christ!); John 1:1-5 The Spirit teaches through the Word) Isaiah 7: 14: "Therefore the LORD shall give you a sign; behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and call His name Immanuel." Hebrew: עִמָּנוּאֵל, "God with us" in human flesh but without sin. The Savior of the world was born to die for our sins! He did so 33 years later. His terrible ordeal; body mutilated; blood poured out, finally died (John 19:30; Luke 26: 46 ) and was placed in a tomb and rose from the dead the 3rd day ! "HE IS RISEN" Matthew 28: 6. Isaiah 53:" 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all." - IT IS FOUNDED UPON GOD'S LOVE FOR MAN AND WOMAN HE CREATED John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." Romans 3: 23 " For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6: 23 " Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me.."John 14: 6 "1 Corinthians 15: 3 "For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:" THE PAYMENT BY HIS BLOOD FOR ALL SINS EVER! "And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world." 1 John 2: 2 Romans 5: 8 " But God demonstrates his love for us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, now justified by his blood, we will be saved from wrath through him." “For he (God) hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” 2 Corinthians 5: 21. "In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;." Ephesians 1: 7 BY GOD'S GRACE ALONE THROUGH FAITH ALONE IN JESUS CHRIST ARE WE SAVED Ephesians 2: 8 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 not of works, lest any man should boast." Jesus died to pay the penalty for our sins and rescue us from eternal death. Because of Jesus' death on our behalf, all we have to do is believe in Him, trusting in His death and in the shedding of His blood as payment for our sins, as well as in His burial and resurrection from the dead the third day, and we will be saved! John 20: 24-31; See also 1 Corinthians 15: 3-4 above. WHOSOEVER BELIEVES SHALL TESTIFY TO THE TRUTH Romans 10: 9 That if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart man believes in righteousness; And a confession by mouth is given for salvation. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Salvation and forgiveness of sins is the blessing of anyone who believes in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. We receive the baptism of God the Holy Spirit immediately which seals us in Christ and that is permanent! Ephesians 1:13-14. Those who reject the free gift of salvation, see John 3:16 above, "perish", which means their sins are judged by God the Son and they suffer eternal separation from God and the family of God forever called the "second death". Revelation 21: 8. "Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." Romans 5: 1
