Mine has been going on for approximately 2 weeks. Twice within that timeframe I’ve felt faint twice. I have worked peds in my past nursing employment. I have experienced C. DIFF in my patients. I decided to seek urgent care tomorrow. Just to see what’s going on. Sometimes cramping, sometimes not. Mostly liquid stools. I’m not sure if I had fever except when I felt faint.

I had C diff last summer and went to the hospital twice . I'm so grateful for them too. I had acute care and no room for me at the hospital so I was discharged each time. I couldn't get a CT due to my kidney function falling or failing. I became so dehydrated. Almost gave up but my sister who I hardly spoke with at the time, knew that I needed to stop eating solids and just have broth, popsicles, gingerale, anything with electrolytes and fluid. No solids. I feel she saved my life. I also had another sister suggest I take florastor and did so in large doses. Well, many months later, I mean....like 5 months I started to feel better. My kidney function (thank goodness) returned to normal . I still take probiotics and still fight diarrhea. I had lost about 12 pounds when I was sick and had a hard time losing weight so quickly. When I started getting better, I gained alot of weight as I had a very difficult time transitioning from salty and sugary liquids to regular eating. Today, I eat mainly vegetables without much fat as the fat seems to aggravate my colon. I was on Vancomycin for 10 days and that took the actual infection away . I was grateful even if I had to wait for hours at the hospital that they helped. My sister is a Saint to me now for helping me. I'm still chubby but not as chubby as I was post recovery. So, Vancomycin, my sisters , and some diet changes really helped. Don't get me wrong , I still have issues but at least I survived.

I am 68, and I just experienced C. Diff. It is no fun. I am now slowly recovering and educating myself as much as I can about this awful, dreadful harmful bacteria. If I ever get it again, I may ask God to just go ahead a take me than to endure it again. I had severe diarrhea with abdominal pain that I would acquaint with having labor pains. My Albumin level was low, and I experienced peripheral edema and/or anasarika, especially in the abdomen and legs! Extreme dehydration where I made three separated visits to see my PCP clinic to be hooked-up to IV fluids before finally decided to go to the Hospital Emergency. I had no appetite. Was nausea all of the time. I was like a zombie. I believe this was brought on by previously prescribed an antibiotic Amoxi and pantoprazole, and caused a disruption between the good and bad gut bacteria. Then I was treated by my PCP certain antibiotics which ended up making me feel worst than better, such as ciprofloxacin & metronidazole. The Hospital Doctor told me to discontinue the antibiotics and prescribed a different antibiotic; Fidaxomicin which is suppose to 'kill' C. Diff. / Problem with this medication, most Pharmacies don't readily have it on hand because it is expensive (20 count tablet can cost on average $5,000.00) Most Pharmacies have to order. I encourage everyone to educate themselves, especially those over age 65 to understand the impact of C. Diff.

Always speak loud and clearly, ask patients to repeat information to ensure they understand. Speak clearly and in simple language that non medical persons can understand. Sure patients condition is stable by looking at vital signs and physical condition. Make patients comfortable in pre-operative care. Explain any confusion until patients understand.

When communicating with an elderly patient it always best to provide eye contact, and to remove mask if possible so they can see from your lips as to what you trying to explain to them , always ask them to repeat what you said to check the level of understanding and to be sure if the message is received correctly , speak clearly.

My friend was diagnosed with colorectal cancer stage 1. She was exposed one on one with a patient who had cdiff infection twice in 8 months. I wonder if the cdiff spores was inhaled by her and that is why she got stage 1 colon cancer.

in perioperative communication with older patients can be a bit tricky as some may be given premedication. So speaking slower with respect and audible enough for them to understand is very important. Reduce the medical terms depending on level of understanding.

Another example of language barriers is if the elderly person or persons aren’t fluent in English but rather are speaking another language. For example maybe the elderly person was originally born in Mexico or another Spanish speaking country but eventually came to the United States later on in their life. In that case you can combat the problem by having someone else who is fluent in other languages as well as in English help you by serving as a translator. That way you can properly communicate with them.

My mother just passed and was with a c diff infection that made her septic… her body had taken such a beating after she fell and broke her ankle, she had all the right factors to be a victim of this nasty bacteria, recent surgery, over age 65, multiple comorbidities, and she was in rehab facility and on antibiotics…. within two weeks she passed after being admitted to the ICU! WE HAVE TO FIND SOMETHING SO THAT PEOPLE OUT THERE DONT SUFFER LIKE MY MOTHER AND SO MANY OTHERS!!!!

This is such an important topic. I am actually a nurse, mother of four, zero substance use but have struggled with sleep for several years now. I must say that yes, my pain goes up with each insomnia episode but once i manage to get a good 4-hour uninterrupted sleep, my sore muscles and headache and eye muscle heaviness disappears. I just turned fifty. Depression is definitely a very close neighbor.
