My mom was under chuck at GRC Band from 67-71. Then I was in GRC Band from 87-91 under Jeff Hood. I believe that both are probably Kentucky finest directors of all times! RIP, Mr. Campbell and I’m sure you’re up there with the biggest band of all times teaching, and now my mom is there playing her trumpet again! I to will be there soon playing my trumpet again too. ❤

What’s crazy is the Texas bands were all from my area D competition. Loved seeing them perform and cried so much. My band New Braunfels High school never saw Grand Nats but we went to BOA Superregionals San Antonio and saw Avon perform live. The feelings they felt are real and tears show the blood, sweat, and tears we put into an 8 or 9 minute show. Puts into one show all the missed notes, flags and sabers to the face, the missed spots, and practicing in 120* Texas heat is all worth the last performance.

Summer symposium was amazing and experiencing that with a lot of band geeks and young musicians and directors was so great. I can’t wait to bring what I’ve learned and experienced into our band program at home.

You lost me at 19:00 when you claimed the lungs do all the work and the diaphragm is merely moved down. The diaphragm is a muscle that moves downwards and creates a vacuum which sucks air into the lungs. I.e., it engages in the inhale. The lungs have no muscles of their own and are merely comprised of a network of alveoli that form a spongy tissue. Please open an anatomy or vocal pedagogy book before attempting to teach others.

Impressive jazz trumpet musical mastery. tremendous tequnique, sound and feel. After a lovely fanfare for 30 seconds or so, he breaks into a lovely swing. No wonder Rex was an opening feature. As a 75 yo comeback player after 45 years or thereabouts away from the trumpet, I would say to any young player that this is the best shot you could ever have of watching, listening and repeating anything you could ever dream to have in your bag and under the fingers and chops. Memorise plenty of this-and-that on this video , being able to hear the notes and see all the fingering .... where do you ever find that??!! I am too busy on other things classical, but if I had this when I was originally playing, I would guess that 15 hours sorting through this over a period of a few weeks would bring your jazz ability up massively. It is a fantastic gift ....
