I’m opening my ghd that has never had repairs and it has a mark line on the same place you recommended and is filled with white powder remnants I have a feeling somebody used the straightener to smuggle drugs.

Hi Gary, Great to find your website and service. I had contacted GHD for repair service, to be offered 10% off a new one instead!! And wouldn't send me any info regarding a fix. Very annoying how these companies aren't forced to have a repair service with how the world is supposed to have gone so "green". Instead opting to try sell the latest model instead. I've replaced the thermal fuse but have broken the small clip. I've to order a thermistor from your site anyway (only one side is now heating up, (too hot also). Is this clip critical to replace also or would I get away without. Many thanks, Mike

My friend offered to fix my straighteners but they returned them saying that my GHDs were unfixable. I was going to dump them down the tip but thought nothing lost if I have a go myself. I found your video and now they are working just fine. Thanks for a clear instruction video. Absolutely brilliant!!!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! After a year of not having a GHD I decided to order the parts and try to fix it myself before buying a new one. Within 15 minutes it was done, thanks to your tutorial. Very easy to follow. You're a wiz 👍

i replaced the thermal fuse on my partners ghds but only the main plate is heating up/smoking but turned it off before fuse failed... do you think the secondary plate has failed?
@Ghd-repairCoUk2 жыл бұрын
There isn't really a primary and secondary. Just two heaters connected in parallel. If one of them has failed, then the irons won't work properly and the thermal fuse may well be tripped. The heaters should measure 35 ohms when both connected in parallel, or 70 ohms when disconnected. See www.ghd-repair.co.uk for loads of advice on how to fix your irons.

Hi, I've tested both R8 and R11. R8 is showing as 1 and R11 is showing as 51, am I right in assuming that the R8 resistor has bust? Thanks

Yep - swap R8 and see if that sorts it. You can buy the appropriate resistor here - www.ghd-repair.co.uk/shop/51_ohm_1W_MELF_Resistor Gary

Don't put the straighteners between your legs you will stab yourself. Put them in a clamp. I when through me finger when the screwdriver slipped. Luckily I did not go through my leg.

how to test if cable broke on ghd
@Ghd-repairCoUk4 жыл бұрын
Hi Lisa, You should be able to tell by the symptoms - do the irons come on when you wiggle the cable? If not it might be another fault. See our website for lots of fault finding info - ghd.repair We also offer a repair service if you don't fancy fault finding them yourself. See ghd.repair/service Regards, Gary

Wouldn’t adding a bit of thermal paste to the back of the thermistor work?
@Ghd-repairCoUk5 жыл бұрын
The thermistor needs to be well glued down and in good contact with the heater. Thermal paste under the bead of the thermistor may improve the performance, but the important thing is solid contact. Gary

What temperature are these straighteners meant to get to? 230 or 185?
@Ghd-repairCoUk6 жыл бұрын
180 to 190 degC if you put a thermocouple between the plates. Other measurement methods may get different results.
