What kind of pen do you recommend using for the rainbows?
@wenwoodsКүн бұрын
Honestly you could use any pen. A pen with a smooth feel gets bonus points. In this video I’m using Pilot Bravo! pen. I like it because it’s smooth and has a substantial line. I also really like Pilot fine liner for this and paint markers.

Agree, very hard, stressful to color in one direction, I too color in by following the lines of the shape, and I really need to turn the paper. I only remember good times with coloring books and crafting, maybe cause I had a creating father in photography and and Aunt who was a professional illustrator. I do remember feeling very traumatized by a penmanship teacher who was upset with me being Left handed. My mom was forced to change hands in her upbringing and she said she would not do that to us. Thanks- this was interesting to think about 🤩

Doing this seemingly small exercise has had ridiculous opening effects on me that are rippling out in my life. Admittedly, this is happening because it is directly related to a childhood wound and it’s helping me work through that wound. Try the exercise and see if it has any effect on you. (I’d love to hear about your experience either way.) If it doesn’t have an effect, is there another childhood wound you carry related to creativity you’d be willing to share? Perhaps I can design an activity around it for future scribble practices? ❤

Very thought provoking- as a child with ADHD coloring books could hold my attention, and I did focus to color in lines and make straight lines, in my 20’s I used fabric paint and could not draw so would trace and color in completely, then I for 15 years threw pottery and using tons of colors again traced on images and painted the same, now being 65 I just want to play, I don’t want to paint realistic images, being new to abstract I guess. So now I lay down loose strokes, I don’t think either is right or wrong , same with I might do both ways… each new day I am a different person. So I can’t say how I will create tomorrow- for now I want to just play with loose designs, feel the process, play with paints, tools, explore new… ups I did not mean that you thought one way was right or wrong but notice how we feel with both ways of applying color… I have a personal connection to both ways ❤

My daughter is such a great play partner for me! Sounds like the combo your son has is a healthy one. I’ve read some interesting information about how having hobbies totally different than what you do everyday is really helpful for making new brain pathways. Watercolour is my first love. I haven’t been using it much recently but such is life. Waves of interest flow in and out.

Yes, I am loving the sketchbook ideas, I create each day , with or without out a plan… I am used to being motivated to create because for over 10 years I have a glass studio in my garage where I spend several hours a day… I have been uninterested last few months with glass- and I am ok with taking a break. That is how I found myself fully immersed in painting, learning on line, and now with scribble. Pure fun and open to any path… and playing with oh so many supplies lol

This sounds like an amazingly fun way to take a break and who knows how it will inspire your glass work down the road!

Big thank you for words, ideas, feelings, emotions, spontaneous, preplanned… I totally get it. I was going thru an older 9 by 12 pad and found older creations, so taking one to express on, I enjoyed making pencil Humm sample ( with water) to get true color - I enjoy it all. 🥰

HI- love this, I don’t have anything to draw on so will play with new watercolor pencils- question- when you do this “ style” or practice, play… is your intention to be quick , less thought, any color, any tool, or no pre thought but once you start you might lean towards a color or tool? Thanks lots…
@wenwoods7 күн бұрын
If I’m honest it changes all the time. Sometimes I’m “hit” with colours or shapes throughout the day and I can’t wait to express them. Those days I come in with clear inspiration. Sometimes even with this inspiration what I’ve seen in my minds eye comes out differently on the page. At first this frustrated me massively (and sometimes still does) but I’m learning to embrace it. I’ve come to feel that the creative energy that needs to be expressed is aware of my physical abilities and just happy to be heard and expressed in the physical world. Other times I have no prior inspiration and I sit down with the intention to express whatever needs to be expressed and follow the step-by-step inspiration as it comes. This blue, that green, this circle, that squiggle. Other times I have emotions bubbling up and I offer them the opportunity to express on the page. In this case I set the intention to allow my body to take the lead and go with what it needs. There are other ways I come at this practice but these are the ones coming to me in this moment. I really try to use this art practice to be in the present moment and allow whatever is with me to be. It’s simple to write and challenging to live. I find that the more I practice on the page the easier it is to come back to the present moment in everyday life. It’s an ever-changing practice. 😊

I wanted to add that there are days where I feel totally uninspired. On those days I often just pick up the nearest supply and make some marks. Inevitably the first few lines begin to make me feel inspired. This happened recently when I scribbled five blue lines one day just to get started. The next few days I couldn't stop with these five lines as my starting point! Pretty funny to me!

Oh, no ⏰ That would frustrate me no end. I try to draw/ paint for fun and I hate it when I have to stop. Imagine a dam that disappears the moment in get ‘in the flow’, then having to hold back all that water and rebuild the dam because I must go to sleep or eat or anything else. It is genuinely painful. It’s like I am being dragged back by force.
@wenwoods7 күн бұрын
What you’re describing sounds like such a gift. You and creativity have a real trust built and it’s flowing to you strongly. I can imagine there are also challenges when you have to come back for physical things like eating and sleeping. Hi me again. What is the difference between gel (y) pens vs markers? Thanks wonder if I should get. I have one in white. Should I get and play with colors 😊
@wenwoods9 күн бұрын
Gel pens have a paint inside them distributed through a pen. So they’re kind of like a really fine paint marker without the felt tip so they feel like a ballpoint pen to use. Markers tend to be ink with felt tips, totally different feel when using them.
@wenwoods9 күн бұрын
I find a lot of stores sell these individually so you could get one and try it out to see what you think! I like Sakura brand size 8 or 10. These are fatter sizes so the ink come out faster in thicker lines. I have some that are thinner lines more like a fine tip pen. These feel a bit more scratchy to me. You could buy one colour in a smaller size though too and see which you prefer.

I do have a guest bedroom/ studio, and by TV , bed I have sketch books, so now after lunch out doing errands I will stop by craft shop. I will get and try on a larger paper. Again thanks so much wow how great

I need to start at the beginning of this humm challenge? To answer your question- harder for me to start on blank page if large like yours ( need to get some) now if just scribble then I could get going. I guess hard to start if I am starting with out an idea. When I sit at my torch and melt glass I start with a plan. I always start with a very clean space. I don’t like to come to a mess. And then I write on a post it my goals, get out my glass colors and tools… thanks. Have yourself a great day
