Nintendo still optimizes at least, they can fit a 100+ hour game into 10 GB if not less... And if you want to install and uninstall something due to space being full its easy cause you can just leave it off while you do house chores or something Meanwhile other games are like 300 GB and 99% of that space is just spaghetti code and hyper realistic eyeball graphics cause that matters in gameplay... Gotta leave my console on for 2 days straight to download a single game

dude they literally just removed some musics from the original ps1 version of resident evil to put it on the n64 cartridge, the thing that takes more space in the ps1 was just the music and the quality of the sound, in fact, resident evil 2 itself don't have any need to be puted in 2 cds it will fit well in just one, capcom just put more musics and make the game unecessarily bigger to make it fell ''bigger'' that the original RE because ''now you will need 2 discs for this game when'' in fact, this game wasn't really bigger than RE1 without some unecessary musics

They stopped optimising performance because management told them to stop optimising performance and focus on optimising the microtransactions instead. Also the smartest low-level engineers capable of doing the optimisation don't work for game studios anymore, they work for big cloud companies, HFT firms and AI startups where they pay far more and have better working conditions.

If that were the case, we might have had Angel Studios or someother make an ultra compressed N64 version of Final Fantasy VII. The FMVs would have probably ran at like 5 FPS, on top of being like 2 and a half p resolution, but it's possible to compress FF7 within a quarter gig of space with enough care. The mad lads would have probably invented framerate interpolation in like 2001 *ON THE N64* just to un-choppify the artificially compressed 5 FPS FMVs. On top of getting FMVs running on N64 in the first place.

@@gooberanytime2526 Not really, it doesn't make sense to join modding for clout when you will be more known for another form of content creation, a good chunk of people know about GAMMA but a lot less know about Grok, nowadays there are several extremely talented modders that make stuff for the love of the game (Xilandro, Hitman, Blindside)

Yeah. Random example, Doom Eternal ran buttery smooth on my mid-ish range laptop at 720p resolution, and low-medium settings. It's like an actual wizard optimized that game or something. Another example, not nearly as optimized as DE, but I'm surprised Baldur's Gate 3 even ran decently enough on the same system, 720p low settings. Again, my laptop's not a powerhouse, it's aight. Still cost less than most high end GPUs.
