I wonder if the dealer does a complete flush or a drain and fill? I’m trying to figure out if I should spend the $400 with them IF they do a complete flush or possibly do your procedure twice. If I did it your way I’d let it sit over night again so it’s completely cold for the 2nd drain.
@justbehandyКүн бұрын
If you are capable of doing it yourself and feel comfortable doing it yourself, then I highly recommend it. Dealership will do what you ask, drain and fill or flush. I don't recommend a flush as it can cause issues. If you end up doing it yourself, and feel strongly about doing twice, why not wait till the next oil change, and do it then?

@tobiasmendez4389 I am thankful that there is a translator and I am able to read your comments. Hugs and 🕊️ to you as well. I so appreciate the time and response. The advantages of this method are that it is quick and easy, and will not cause issues you mentioned, but another issue that some may encounter may be dislodging too many contaminants if they replace all the fluid in an old neglected system at one time. Thank you for sharing your faith. Yes, God has been a big part of my life, and I wish everyone the peace and love that comes through Christ Jesus. Philippines 4:4 to 4:8 are some of my favorite verses in the Bible that I lean on when life gets tough. What are your favorite verses?
@tobiasmendez43893 күн бұрын

2017 Outback, 2.4 (I think) the non turbo. Took out about 4.75 qts. I dumped 6qts back in. After overflow I think I put about 5.25-5.5 into it. I am kind of suprised you didn’t drop the own to wipe it and clean the magnet. It is strange to me the rtv gasket needed. Every own I’ve dropped had a metal mesh / rubber gasket. I am a bit fear full of rtv seeping in and getting in the oil. Also others used grey rtv while stock seems to be the red/orange. Red rtv is typically high temp, so idk why people are using the grey. Thank for tge videos I did both differentials and the cvt following you. All 3 oils were very dirty at 115k miles. Nit sure of the cars history I just got it last month, it feels decently smoother now, unless that’s just in my head idk. Will be checking out your other videos. Excellent content and presentation. We just got a new 25 Forester, so we're quite a ways away from a CVT service. Is there a CVT fluid filter, if so why wouldn't it be changed, as well?
@justbehandy25 күн бұрын
Thank you for the comments and feedback. There is a strainer in the oil pan area, but it is meant for large stuff and usually what it catches gets drained out. The true filter is embedded behind a compartment that is behind the flywheel, so you would have to remove the CVT to get at it and is considered a lifetime filter. That is why it's best to change fluid every 35k miles or so. Hope that helps.
@nathanhannah966426 күн бұрын
This is the BEST video I have seen on this process. Tops even Mr. Subaru's videos and he has great videos. Like you, i too made my own wooden ramps after i purchased a 2018 Outback so i can do my own engine oil changes. I'll be doing the CVT fluid change in very near future. I love your gravity feed set up - I had been planning on using a fluid pump, but your set up will be much easier than using a pump under the vehicle.

Thank you! This and your rear differential videos are great. Did them both today. I live in the west and the car was clean and corrosion free, I don’t know what Subaru thinks the spec foot pounds are, but 100 percent do make sure you loosen the drain plug before you do anything because those plugs were awfully tight. You can get an impact with a long extension in behind the wheel to loosen it, but I wound up using a breaker bar as suggested because I wasn’t 100 percent confident about the angle.
@brettogden68672 күн бұрын
Attempted front and rear differential on my 2019 Outback today. Rear diff was ok to do but could not loosen the front drain plug. Had a breaker bar on the end of a T70 bit and it would not budge. Off to a mechanic i guess to use some impact tools?
@justbehandy2 күн бұрын
@brettogden6867 sometimes lightly tapping (10 to 20 times) the plug with a hammer can help loosen the oxidation between the plug and the case. Be sure that the hammer taps are flat to the plug and not causing damage. Give that a try before going to a mechanic.

I think you left out the ADAPTATION step. On other Subaru CVT videos I have seen, when finished with the final fill level, ,a diagnostic tool is needed to tell the transmission that there is new fluid in the transmission. This is referred to as ADAPTATION. Otherwise very nice presentation!

If the clip is out, you should be able to turn the cartridge left and right with pliers, as you pull. Otherwise it may be best to call a plumber as the specialty tool may end up costing as much as a service call.
