I remember when going to the salon every 2 weeks was affordable and a norm. Its crazy salons are so expensive many are now going 1 or 2x per year.

A silk press is when they add silk serum before straightening. That’s it. If her hair still turned out this way, it’s still a silk press.

Honestly I don’t get silk press either. I got it one time and my hair smelled so burnt that it was making me nauseous. I tried everything but I couldn’t get the smell out for two days

You should try out other coloring markers. :) Since alcohol markers bleed in a lot, I suggest buying acrylic markers if you want to layer the colors, and you could also use both the acrylic marker and alcohol markers. You could also use posca for coloring in large spaces, but you're doing great as a beginner. Keep it up! :D ❤️
