19:45 I didn't think there were many airslide hoppers still in regular service. You usually just see them as buffer cars.

I ran a Herzog train once years ago for about 8 hours. It's pretty cool how they work. A company guy sits up front with you, having a laptop. Everything is done by GPS. You set cruise control about 2.5MPH and it drops ballast from cars precisely but not over crossings. You see those cables between cars, that's what controls the doors opening. We started with 60 load and only had 2 loads left when finished. Whoever calculates what is needed is spot on.

A lot of NS trains running with CSX 'Z' symbols through there. Makes me wonder what happened on NS to force them to detour their trains over CSX.
@GIMRRC8 күн бұрын
It’s not a detour. Any time a foreign line train operates over CSX on trackage rights they are given a Z train symbol. This is a trackage rights arrangement where NS runs over CSX to access their yard.
@kevinbaker42418 күн бұрын
@@GIMRRC Okay, thanks for the clarification. Some years back, Pentrex released a 'Sunrise to Sunset' video (Volume 3) covering that exact location, and every single train operating through there at the time was CSX. That's why I thought the NS trains were detoured.
@old_school_guy7 күн бұрын
When Conrail ran the Cinci line from Columbus we had to go the train designation they gave us and not our actual symbol.
@old_school_guy7 күн бұрын
Even if you leave Gest St. to go the 3rd main owned by NS you still have to cross their mains to get there. Hence a Z number.

I saw the SCL 1967 on an earlier run of I-010 through New London (yes, along the AC&Y Trail) back in early August. Coincidentally, earlier that same day, I had seen the Western Maryland 1852 trailing on M-369 on the New Castle Sub through Sterling, and I decided it was the ideal time to pay my first visit to New London, as I had never been there before. The first train I saw while I was checking out the new AC&Y Trail? I-010 with the SCL 1967 in the lead. When you're lucky, you're lucky, I guess.

I have yet to visit Greenwich myself, but it's on my list of places to go to (if I can figure out where to park without trespassing). Lately, I've been spending time in both Wellington (SR18) and New London (SR162, along the recently-opened AC&Y Trail).

@kevinbaker4241 Hi Kevin. When you come to Greenwich, park in the area east of Kniffen St. It is railroad property, but they won't fuss about it as long as you're not in the way of the MofW crews. Thank you for mentioning the AC&Y Trail!

@@thomasdupee1440 Much appreciated. I'll go there when I have the opportunity to do so. As for the AC&Y Trail, I've already walked a portion of it in New London, and it's very nice, especially since it runs right alongside the CSX ex-Big Four (NYC) line.
