Here’s a fact, the most accurate rifles are built by the United States Army Marksmanship Unit for their Service Rifle Team. Thing is, anyone can put together a rifle following the USAMU pattern for .5 MOA performance shooting match grade ammunition such as Mk262 or 77 grain FGMM. For the most part it’s a Kreiger or similar 1/8 twist match grade barrel 1 inch diameter under free float hand guard, Geissele 2 stage trigger, and quarter minute iron or optic sights sans backlash. Of course, even with a rifle built as described the shooter’s skill will determine results. For sure the problem here is the author of this video needs to learn how to use a 6 o’clock hold to get a consistent sight picture, as well as learn how to correctly counter for wind. His testimony reveals the problem using a Kestrel for wind is it reads at firing point when it’s midrange wind that’s most important and to understand it, its effect on environment must be observed. Lastly, the magnification of the scope does not at all equate to accuracy as proven from US Service Rifle Scores produced by Champion Shooters where iron sight scores rival or even surpass magnified optic scores. My experience with this stuff is mostly as a US Service Rifle and Long-Range Competitor , and CMP-USAMU Military Rifle Instructor.

I understand what you're saying but as far as Magpul is concerned, they build those with the intention of loading. Whether we find it to be accepted or not. I don't own a pair so I have no skin in the game. I'm just giving them some kind of credit since they didn't design them with the intent to have no slack. So they haven't done anything wrong in this comparison. That's all. I like the video though. Thanks for the content

@PrecisionRifleNetwork
@PrecisionRifleNetwork 4 күн бұрын
my guess is they would handle it just fine. These are not inferior quality just because they are lightweight and cost a little less than a Manners stock for example. Most of them still incorporate a metal bedding block in them, which is the thing that's soaking up those recoil forces.

It is called barrel harmonics, you will have to find the combination of bullet and powder weight that your barrel likes. I have a cheap Wilson Combat 20 inch fluted 1/8 twist no break, it likes Varget and 77gr Berger OTM. The Geissele SSA-E trigger, SWFA x10 scope do help. Shoots sub moa at 100 yards.
@PrecisionRifleNetwork
@PrecisionRifleNetwork 4 күн бұрын
I'm very familiar with barrel harmonics. This rifle shoots sub-moa with the factory 77g sierra matchkings. I don't expect anything more than that. If I need more precision and longer range, then I'll switch to one of my bolt actions.

Shooting 1 MOA groups with any AR is very good shooting, no matter how small the sample size, so kudoz to you. However, your sample sizes are simply too small. 5 shot groups are too small to be considered data. Remember, there are no anomalies and all shots count. With larger sample sizes you’ll see that those anomalies are well within the bell curve and will look less like anomalies.

A decent approach to better precision out of an AR15. Some comments below suggest installing a match grade barrel. I shoot a lot of 223 Rem and can offer that a less expensive approach is to use match grade ammo in the 68gram to 77gr range. PMC X-Tac makes an affordable but accurate match round. Federal w/Berger 73gr is really accurate. Sub MOA for sure. I assume your twist is 1:8. Surprised your sponsor is Arken but you did not use an Arken scope. Their new 1-8 LPVO would be a great test. More magnification above 3X will improve accuracy.
@PrecisionRifleNetwork
@PrecisionRifleNetwork 4 күн бұрын
I agree with you on all of this. Please watch part two of this series where I changed the barrel and other things. Also, just because Arken sponsors the channel doesn't mean I have to use their products exclusively. I think they make great stuff, and If I would have had an extra one of their optics laying around, I might have used it. In this case, Athlon sent over the LPVO for me to review so I used that one instead. Thanks.

@@PrecisionRifleNetwork I’m trying not to be a snob but a 1-10x LVPO doesn’t work well IMHO. Getting 10x zoom costs a lot in other areas when making a scope for $800 or less. For example, I bet if you looked at the new Vortex Viper HD 2-10x42mm scope that the optical quality would be much better at $480. That Proof Barrel should be shooting sub-MOA consistently. Your form and support look fine. Is the twist rate fast enough for 70+ grain bullets?
@PrecisionRifleNetwork
@PrecisionRifleNetwork 4 күн бұрын
@@chipsterb4946 The barrel is shooting sub-moa consistently with the 77g sierra matchkings, as demonstrated in this video. 1 in 8 twist is fine for these bullets. We're kinda wandering into the weeds of different tools for different jobs. A standard AR15 isn't a precision tool, and never was meant to be. I was simply trying to show that an average rifle can be accurized to some degree by changing out some components. If we're going to talk about the job of precision shooting then a quality bolt action with a high power variable optic and handloaded ammo is the right tool for the job. I didn't put a higher power optic on this gun because I would never use an AR in that role, again it's the wrong tool. Ballistics, efficiency, energy on target, penetration, expansion are not great with 223/556 rounds out past 300 yards. So theoretically if that's the max distance we intend to use an AR then why try to make it do the job a larger bolt action was made specifically to do? I appreciate your comments. thx.
