very lovely. I have been looking into the past. I remember Martyn did a record called 'Sold Out" - does this exist anywhere? I have long lost the tape.

I appreciate the sentiment and the beauty of Martyn singing anything at all. That said, this could also be translated as the strange obsession of MAGA where they think the past was somehow better and that we need to get back to that, "when it was better." We have to keep believing and enacting new action that keeps us progressing forward. What looks like a terrible reality of polarization in this country is, perhaps, something difficult we have to go through in order for America to wake up and see the cracks we've been blissfully avoiding. Healing is to progress. Not necessarily to go back.

Understand your point but in the context of all his other songs about America (including his cover of Larry Norman's Great American Novel), it is clear to me that his critique/lament is motivated by wanting to see the country return to the purity of its core values uncorrupted by the isolationism, insularity and aggression of Trump et al.

Hi Martin, I was at a church youth weekend at Saltburn many years ago and experienced the Holy Spirit in a way that has lasted all my life. I have worked in social housing and homelessness support because of a conviction that God has a plan. It’s been hard but your faithfulness remains an anchor in my journey. Thank you.

Just amazing like all the other songs on your new album. I was especially moved by "Waiting for the rain" and "Pacific Northwest". The fact that you have less than 1,600 subscribers is what ruins my faith in humanity. Brilliancy not recognized. The genius of the crowd - as Bukowski would say.

I had the privilege of seeing him live, last Sat 13th Jan 2024. A truly remarkable solo performance - just one man and his guitar. His passion and sincerity shone like a beacon. His lyrics poignant and timely, only taking the side of justice and humanity. Well into his 60s, his vigour and passion show no sign of diminishing. The pandemic lockdown re-focused and re-invigorated his songwriting. Congratulations Martyn on your new album, new-born son and your determination to carry on saying what you have to say, through your wonderful music. Long may you continue writing and performing plus promoting your excellent charitable trust.
