Thanks. Jim Clark coached me at school. A hard man but with a cutting sense of humour. He coached a certain Mr Andrew Holmes who didn’t do too badly.

Eight years later, the same two women would win the gold medal in the women's lightweight double sculls in the 1985 World Championships.

Two fundamental mistakes: taking the catch with bent arms and lifting the upper body at the catch.

Certainly "non-standard", and it would not fly today, where there is so much more refinement by video-assisted coaching to get the maximum from the legs. .... but You have to register how strong and how super-efficient his lower back movement is to appreciate what he was doing to be one of the best scullers in the world in his best years. Amazing hands movement/ blade work. Inspirational.

Note the minimal wrist action at finish…..and fingers loose on leading hand during recoveryi. Interesting re the minimal straight arm time at catch? Thanks to Chuter for amazing cine bequeathed for us 60’s amateurs!

Super strong upper body to take that strain over the first part of the stroke. May struggle with today's equipment as alot stiffer sculls not as forgiving. But no wonder I got nowhere near him when I raced

They were genuine trailblazers. International womens rowing was still in its infancy so the work they, and others like them, invested in the sport is not to be underestimated.

Dont have it at the moment. It maybe somewhere on Penny Chuter's 180 VHS tapes but I'm working on her tapes from 1981 at the moment, so its a long time before I get to anything from 2000

I find Gary Herbert's commentaries annoying, but it was recorded from the BBC who were broadcasting to a British audience. Do you think the commentary on German television was unbiased?

Hi Mostyn, Geoff here. Great to see this early footage of the missus. Pauline, who was 16 at the time, says that the 4+ was Sara Waters, Chris Grimes, Chris Aistrop and Lin Clark, coxed by Pauline Wright.

Thanks Geoff. I hope Pauline is enjoying all this nostalgia

Eight was Eton 1st VIII with 5 and 6 doubling up in the coxless pair. Coxless four was from the Eton 2nd VIII !! Coxed pair was Radley (Beak and Waterer). Double scull was Ian Knight and Graham Innes and single was Andrew Hudson of Westminster

@@MostynARC thought so. You can tell by their technique at the time with Granger coaching them it was very ‘Wallingford’ 😄
