Performances from this album were not her best. I think her mind was elsewhere because “the Don’t Wanna Work That Hard” is in full effect. She’s not remembering words - more than usual. Melody is all over the place. The album itself is just freaking spectacular, but the performances just don’t come close

One of her most soulful and stirring songs and performances. "Mistaken Identity " is one of my favorite Albums by her. Vocally it is very strong. It grew on me and deserves another listen from anyone who enjoys her.

Mistaken Identity one of her most underrated records. Oddly the only performances from it she seemed to ever do was This song, yet the only single in the USA that seemed to be released was When Love Cries which wasnt exactly her best work..

@@Jcrash71 that is one opinion, that was the sound that was popular at the time, but if you want to hear what could have been listen to the Lonnie Gordon released around that time (that has happening all over again on it) that song and alumb was put together by SAW for Donna.

@@eddiewalker2513, I already know that the New Jack swing stuff was popular then but it didn't fit her style compare to what she had before. Songs like Power Of One was more of a Donna Summer track.

The early 90ies was a very difficult time to predict consumer demands as everything was changing fast. Recession did not help and musical influences on an unprecedented scale prevented anyone from playing safe. Many record companies folded or were taking over. Donna had a massively successful hit record with S/A/W 2 years prior but a 2nd album with same producers was shelved due to licensing problems and trend changes. Hip Hop and Soul from the US would take a hold and so did the club remixes and house records that even managed to achieve top chart positions. It was fiercely competitive. Her album "Mistaken Identity" although daring and covering some aspects of these trends, did not quite hit the nerve with the public, neither delivered strong hooks or memorable melodies. This song however was a stand out one. Fantastic delivery live.

Happy 2023. You're speaking facts. I had no idea that she recorded another album with SAW. I finally got a copy of this album courtesy of her boxed set and this album is very underrated. In addition to the changing music scene, Donna also began to record more political songs and she was dealing with her sister's cancer battle and suing a magazine for printing false accusations about her

Devin Summer totally agree! Her sister Mary (who toured with her thru the decades) sings this as part of her celebrating the music of Donna summer shows she does here on south Florida it’s just as amazing truly a Gifted family.. I love this song!!!
