Thanks for this post. I have been working on the piece as published in the Winfield Winners Mel Bay songbook for many years. So lovely to see Robert perform it so tastefully in the flat picking style with an unpublished bridge. Learning this piece has really upped my game!

She is so clever - musically, and powerful verbally. This is a story we all have. Im going to look for other artists writing about their dads and make an hour.

For the past couple of weeks I’ve been working outside - doing everything mentioned in this song. Splitting wood - stacking same wood - cleaning up ground after wood stacked - winterize irrigation system - coil and store 14 hoses - last mow lawn and pathways through meadows - last weeding a couple of invasive plants - 5 days digging up weeds in a long enough dirt and gravel driveway - picking apples - help neighbors - watch wildlife. I’m afraid to say that I’m just about done - most everything is crossed off the list. Yesterday, in my head I was singing to myself this song “Fallow Season”, and here it shows up on my KZbin feed - perfect!!! By tomorrow the chores will really be done - I’m feeling a road trip coming on. Thank you John for this wonderful song. Brent

I saw him perform at a house concert in the Washington, DC area with Rebecca Folsom. It was a terrific show. He later helped me with some gear for my retirement party. He was a super nice person, in addition to a talented musician. I am so glad to have this performance that captures some of his music. Rest In Peace, David.

I don't know how many times I've watched/listened to this. Thank you. Thank you so much for articulating this in a way I have never been able to. My heart is breaking in the most freeing and wonderful way listening to this. I suspect before I'm ever done listening to this song, I'll have it committed to memory so completely that it will join me in my dreams. Thank you from the deepest parts of my heart.

John - I love this song. I discovered you about 20 years ago when my wife returned from a retreat where she heard your song Iris Blue. We both sat and listened to it and cried. Our anniversary is in September and this year will be 47 years for us. We just sang it together last night. Glad to see you are still playing snd sounding great as ever. Since I’m 72 and still playing I’ll be adding this song to my repertoire. All the best.

John, I'd like to thank you for this song. When we were on a tour in Ireland in 2019, our guide sang this to us on the last night of our tour. My wife of 20 years died this February, and at her memorial we sang this song. It seemed appropriate to wish her 'safe home' on her journey. Thank you.

Heard this performed live, and Owen sound Canada last year. Just a great tune from an introspective artist. Seems very fitting these last few months before the presidential elections this November. Time for the patriarchal old guard To get out of the way and allow a more balanced and equitable way of governance to happen.
