Hi, preservation selection is as per experience as a design engineer, if you know what minimum metal thickness is necessary, than you can select it easy, like you have thread near about end face of the surface than you need to minimum 5mm metal thickness after thread, if we do not do that thickness than after some time our part will fail due to less metal thickness, and preservation also depands what is your application, how much load, force will pass thru on the model. Meaning is you need experience as a designer or anything that can give the idea, what minimum thickness need to give, as per past experience or suggestions of senior or you can take guidance of who has knowledge of that application, or you can make analysis of different metal thickness, you will get the answer what minimum metal thickness i need to do. Pressure For yr vessel that time if u r getting FOS is 1 if u add more pressure yr vessel will fail) Here It means FOS 1= 5Mpa FOS 2= 10Mpa FOS 3= 15Mpa FOS 4= 20Mpa EXAMPLE,, If FOS 1=10Mpa If u r getting FOS 1.5 that means yr vessel can stand 15Mpa, after 15Mpa yr vessel will fail FOS 1.5 OR 2 IS OK
