When driving forwards, tap whatever button you use to reverse (Square on PS2 or PSP, X on Xbox, B on Gamecube) and move the analogue stick (or d-pad if you wanna torture yourself) in the direction you want to drift. You can do straighter drifts by pushing the stick forward and in a particular direction, but too straight and you'll get a slow drift that doesn't give any boost points that the community calls a "Lazy Drift".

Nice lap, but you can scrub some time by jumping onto the bridge just past the first post 😉 I once held the fastest lap record on that track for about a month online when it was still supported. It’s been years upon years since I’ve played that game so I’d have to dig it out to find out the actual if it’s even possible but I believe it was sub 1:00. I’ll never forget grinding for weeks to finally reach it but man time flies when you enjoy what your immersed in lol…IMO that was the best Off-road Fury they ever made! I actually checked the current world record on the speedrun,com (I'm not sure if KZbin'll let me post the link, hence the comma) and I think the current world record for this track does the strat you're talking about. I probably knew about it at the time I did my run, and didn't go for it due to safety (I was doing lap attempts within race runs).

Right on, I genuinely didn't know that was a thing until I just looked it up. I was referring back to when ps2 had online play 15+ years ago and leaderboards for fastest ghost laps. Saw your name on that site though man, that’s pretty awesome keep it up! 👍🏼

To the person who commented on here, I can't reply because it looks like your comment got picked up by KZbin's anti-spam filter or some crap. But to answer your question, PSW (Penguin Spacewalking) is a technique in this game that can be used to skip getting the required number of crystals (12, 15 and 20) for the Tyrannosaurus Wrecks, Tomb Town and Astro Lands bouncepads respectively, bringing the number of crystals required to beat the game from 47 (65 without entering Happily Ever Faster early or skipping its bouncepad with a simple corner boost jump) all the way down to 1 (theoretically 0, but there's a crystal in the way of the setup for the Tyrannosaurus Wrecks Bouncepad Skip.) The technique itself is quite precise, it's very rare to get the technique first try, so as you can see by how long it's been since I've gotten this run, I was (and still am) more than happy with a second try Tomb Town Bouncepad Skip (which, to put things into perspective, is the easiest out of the three with the order of difficulty being ALBPS > TWBPS > TTBPS from hardest to easiest). I also recall hearing about a fourth Mystery Island Bouncepad Skip, but it's mainly considered a meme skip, due to being both harder than Astro Land Bouncepad Skip and also saving less time than T-Wrecks Bouncepad Skip, especially when a way of enter Happily Ever Faster early without any crazy techniques already exists. It's exclusive to the PSP version, but can be unlocked on the PS2 version by connecting a PSP and PS2, each with a copy of the respective console's version of the game together via a USB console. An alternate way of unlocking it on the PS2 version if you're more tech savvy is downloading the save file labelled "Any% fresh save files with PSP car" that's on the game's speedrun dot com leaderboard under the "Resources" tab.
