I was born and brought up in London, a massive Beatles fan, but I'm not the person who wants to visit shrines. Even so I remember when young in the 80's working as a cycle messenger. Getting a bit lost I cycled down a street and found myself cycling into the album cover. Oh my God, I'd looked at the cover so many times and here I was recognising it instantly so many years later. It's my favourite album cover. Also the blurred girl walking past the street sign is so iconic.

Song came out in 73 so wasn't playing in a diner in 1970

My High School French class in Delaware took a trip to Paris and London when I was 16 in 1986. Even though I studied French, I was most looking forward to London! In London I dragged my friend with me to find where the Beatles took the Abbey Road photo. We took the tube to Wapping and somehow missed our stop and only realized it when the train emerged aboveground and the train was surrounded by sheep! We found our way back and ultimately to EMI Studios and Abbey Road. I wanted him to take my photo crossing at the same zebra crossing that the Beatles did, but it was much more confusing than you realize. There are 3 different zebra crossings there and it's not at all clear which is the right one. We stood around and although I was embarrassed, I asked passersby if they knew which one it was and no one did. So I picked one and took off my shoes because I wanted to be "Paul." We had to wait a while before traffic died down, but my friend snapped a picture of me halfway across that crossing with my shoes off like a lunatic. The saddest thing is, I no longer know where that photo is...
