I am from eastern SD. My Dad was a second generation full bloodied Swede. My Mother is likewise except she is Norske. They serve Lutefisk or at least they used to back home at different occasions. I remember seeing Lutefisk on Tuesday signs on certain Cafes. Well, I went into a buffet place one time when I was back visiting. I noticed they had a pan of whitefish on the buffet, so I scooped up some. It was Lutefisk they must have had left over. Once you are exposed to Lutefisk, you will never forget it. What they did was put the Lutefisk in a pan and baked it in the oven to dry it out and maybe even enhance it to make it more palatable. It did not work. I choked the fish done not wanting to leave it. I will never forget that. One time I had a dinner at a Sons of Norway hall when I was a young man. It was a baked salmon piece, boiled new potatoes and beets and coleslaw made with a vinaigrette instead of the usual mayo based liquid. It was all pretty good. Bland, but good. My mother made that coleslaw and I see it less and less. I used to see it all the time up north. Not anymore. Another thing I used to see was coleslaw augmented with horseradish. Not too much, it was very good.

This video is more significant than anybody thinks right now. There is getting to be a new community of sailors - dinghy cruisers - on coasts and inland lakes and waterways. The proa is becoming very interesting for home builders and sailors. It will be great if these Minnesota folks become a “scene” in this new sailing world! Hoka Hey!

I ordered and got a 46 Chevy truck swap kit but it didn’t come with any instructions? Is there a website or anywhere I can get instructions.

If the Chevy was a ford it would have the front end smashed because that’s the only thing that stops a ford.😂👍☮️

Back in the days when normal people could afford to live their passion and buy their dream car. These cars may have had flaws but they were cool and had a strong identity. Authenticity and character. Thanks for the video and congratulations to the owner for his dedication.

Thank you for showing the video and these cars. My grandfather drove one of these types of vehicles from St. Paul to Austin many years ago, which was a distance of 100 miles! I do not know if it was an Austin, Hudson, Nash, or AMC Metropolitan. But I know it was a Metropolitan, and we could fit our entire family in the car, including six kids and my parents. That was without using the foldout to the trunk! A few members of my family got into a car crash with this car (I was not with them), and our youngest sibling was in the car on my mom's lap. I recall that we continued to use the vehicle afterward, but only for a short time.

Oakland Cemetery, (Ramsey County), founded in 1853, two years before Minnesotan became a state, is just down the street here; the final resting place of Alexander Ramsey and Henry Sibley. One was the first Territorial Governor and the other was the first State Governor. They are buried near the inside the original main entry, beneath huge headstone monuments, allegedly did not like each other, and are within fifteen feet of each other… This area having been a railroad-rich area once upon a time, Oakland has a section with old, flat markers of Chinese people; reportedly railroad workers. As I recall, there is a dedicated old firefighters area. Near Sycamore and Jackson a lot of Hmong people are now being buried; their markers largely beautiful black marble and often with engraved images. History in the making yet… One old monument from way back when denotes the death of a young child; engraved, “Our Little Frank,” and the fact that he lived less than two years…. Can you imagine the grief?? Decades ago one of two sisters who owned a local flower shop was murdered alongside their flower delivery man. She is buried in Oakwood Cemetery, only blocks from where she happily toiled and tragically lost her life… Much, much room left at Oakland Cemetery, unlike Pioneer Cemetery. Both hold Civil War soldiers… Lakewood Cemetery, Minneapolis, holds the remains of former Minneapolis Mayor, U.S. Senator, Vice President and Presidential candidate Hubert Humphrey. Former U.S. Senator Paul Wellstone and his beloved wife Sheila are buried in Lakewood Cemetery. I have friends and acquaintances in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis; as well as a number of my clients from my long tenure as a Ramsey County employee.

I’d be interested in the emotional suppression, repression, of the Swedes (and others in Scandinavian countries). The functional doing, conflict avoidance, poor communication, has led to dysfunctional relationships. They subsequent generations, look “fine” but often have depression, anxiety, heart disease, obesity and cancer …which are all linked to emotional neglect etc

Your Buick is just beautiful, great color too. I like that Santa Claus House sticker. I have to wonder, did the car actually make it up to North Pole, Alaska? I was born, raised, and still live 14 miles north of North Pole, Alaska.
