V63 sounds like a BASS. That’s a good thing. Still has the top end, while adding much more bass signal into the mix. You can always roll off the bass control at the amp if you want only the treble bite. But you can never really add the bass back into the sound if it’s not there to begin with.

So many songs were recorded with guitar amps back then, since you don't need big amps for recording, experimenting with guitar amps would bring totally new tones that today bassists might find hard to emulate.
@MarcBarkyMarta14 күн бұрын
I think you might get even closer to the Paperback Writer sound by pushing a little more mids and treble. The recording has a lot of fizz and stuffy nose in that tone. Then again, apparently the UL7120 used during those sessions was a prototype, so who knows if anything changed in the amp topology between prototype and production?

why did you use the oso in this i thought you had a ul730?
@perrystanleyNumber922 күн бұрын
The OSO is a recreation of the UL715. Same sound as the UL730. Because the UL730 is such a rare amp, I didn't feel comfortable Hooking it up the Leslie. I'm not very knowledgable about ohms and speaker matching . It wasn't worth it to me to use the UL730 and somehow screw up the Leslie or the UL730 head. I'd never be able to replace it with only 25 on the planet if something went wrong. The OSO got the same sound without the risk of something happening to an extremely rare amp. BUT... I did use the UL730 for the bass track!

I could watch this video a thousand times and never get tired of it. It truly was a magical time being inside "THAT SPACE". Although I literally took an hour of video inside Abbey Road, I'm just not a KZbin guy and thus am not sharing it. What an amazing experience it was to simply be there. I love your passion for everything Beatles, but specifically the equipment they used. Very grateful for your taking the time to share these amazing memories. Perhaps one day I will post mine........you never know. Also have about an hours worth of Hogg Hill Mill studio video. I deeply respect your passion Perry......well done son!

Thanks!If you are referring to the gray box on top of the Vox , it is the power source for the CM7 mic which is recording the tampura.

Were you able to play the other tambourines? Particularly the dryer sounding ones used on songs like Taxman, With A Little Help From My Friends, Hello Goodbye, etc.
@perrystanleyNumber924 күн бұрын
I have one of the wooden Ludwigs. In terms of wet and dry, they all certainly have different sounds, but I feel a lot depends on how it is put in the mix, if it was submixed with the drums, sent to the chamber etc which determines a great deal of the character . What often sounds dry or wet when played alone can take on a different sound when it goes in the mix. There is definitely different character and tones very apparent though when played alone outside of the context of the mix. The metal character sure adds something different than the wooden ones, and the fact that many zines are missing on the one ludwig rock tambourine (At least that's what I think it is)also clearly must make a difference in how dry it would sound.

The tone is right on… but there is some debate and discussion that the guitar was detuned a whole step.
@perrystanleyNumber9Ай бұрын
I think it definitely was . I did two versions. This one I believe I tuned to the first take. The second I did with the UL730 and tuned to the final mix.

thanks for reminding me that you can just play a REALLY simple beat to add to a song. I just got some bongos and have been practicing these tight intricate patterns. But sometimes it can be very very simple.

When I entered the control room, the first thing I noticed was the massive board. I said "wow that sure is a lot bigger than my home studio board". One of the engineers, Leon, was so kind and said "nah, it can't be that bad"! He was very generous with his time just talking as I was one of the last people to leave the studio that day. I know you'll agree, just looking out of "that" floor to ceiling window looking down on Studio II was surreal. How many photos have we all seen of the boys doing that exact same thing. Leon was so kind to just sit back and chat as we were the last one's in there. What an experience......

I have a question (for anyone knowledgeable) about the use of the Dr. Robert Pedal. Can it be used with the Rickenbacker to get a sound closer to the albums of that time? I keep reading that Paul used the bass with the VOX Ul 730? I’d be just using a Fender rumble, the pedal in question, and a compressor. Am I way off on what I think I can accomplish with that combo? Maybe it really is just for the guitars during that time. Thanks.
@perrystanleyNumber9Ай бұрын
The thing is on bass the UL730 isn't pushed to distort . It's the sound of the transistors and amp EQ clean . I don't know if the pedal can achieve that. I discuss and demonstrate the UL730 playing bass on with a Little Help From My Friends. Check it out . I don't know if the threshold of the pedal can be set that clean replicating the amp sound.
