The Womack and Womack original is unsurpassable and as such any cover needed to have had an original take on it. This just feels like pastiche imo.

7:13 That bakery is an Amusement Arcade now which nearly always has about 15 Romanians just hanging outside of. The other shop on the other side of Grafton Street is a Sainsburys Express.

Sex-ay with capital S. The funky beat has already done heaps before Paul's voice came on. An effing masterpiece which was rightly made this long. What a satisfying experience. An extended ear-gasm!

For some reason I missed this tune in my youth...love the baseline, love the lyrics. By the way with a couple of changes to the lyrics, this song can be the anthem for the current Russian invasion of Ukraine invasion. I took the liberty to make these changes. I stand with Ukraine. Russians stuck in Putin’s land Told when to sit don't know where you stand Too busy recreating the past To live in the future. Poor relations with Uncle Sam - bears no relation to the country man Too busy being someone else to be who you really are. Shifty manic rehab man Mind where you walk when the sun goes down Too busy hating others to even love your own. Little green men on the beat again - beating Ukrainians blue again. It's one way to get involved in the community. Love me, love my jeans I must buy shares in Putin’s dreams Too busy buying up, selling out, selling off. 3, 2,1, in other terms - win a life sentence and a jail term The individuals that state, in a state of siege. Do pop and press and mix, do tits and news stew The next one in the poor house could be you To busy saying "thank you" to say what for? No time to spare - "spare me a dime"? The Russian Empire is organized crime Their confessions are written in your blood. Kiss your ass and dreams goodbye Come back when you've learnt to cry To busy trying to be strong to see how weak you are. Wave your flags and waive your fate The freedom you claim is the one you hate The victory you seek will never come. Brutal views through brutal eyes See no future, hear no lies Speak no truth to me or the people I love. When I grow up I want to be All the things you've never been And your opinion will count for none. Headed for a breakdown Headed for a breakdown Headed for a breakdown Headed for a breakdown

As i listen to this today, a 50 yr old man with more than his fair share of singular adventures behind me, I can't help but think....fuck me too late to the XTC party. The following years were a roller coaster ride of MDMA and house music and never once did i twig. Before i die i will neck one and bang this on. :)

The house they're in, where Paul says it all started, is 52 Grafton Street. But the contact details on "The Housemartins From Outer Space" demo tape say 'The Housemartins live at 70 Grafton Street'. Was the house in this documentary not the real house? Or did Paul move? Or did two of them live on Grafton St in different houses? What's the story?
