I got one of these about 3 years ago and cut it down and painted it, weathered it, and it actually looks pretty great after that customization to make it look like the real thing. You just have to cover the silly revolving chamber, of course, before modifying, with some Milliput. It's a shame they didn't do a translucent orange handle, but I at least painted it orange there. It's a fun little thing to have.

This is a masterpiece of modern cinematography. The first shot portrays the desire of the protagonist, the pie being a stand in for heaven a ideal state of being freed from all mortal worry. However a few slices are already missing and I would argue there are a few ways to interpret this: 1 One could consider this as a way to draw parallels between the pie and Yin and Yang however not necessarily the modern interpretation but rather the original Daoist meaning that apparente opposites are actually complementary one giving rise to the other. Here Yin would be the pie and Yang the absence of it but still they are interconnected as one necessitates the other for else the very definition of that object will seize to have meaning. (One could also see this Yin Yang parallel in the Lime Pie itself this particular interpretation is given credit by the fact that the colors of Lime (Yang) and the pie (Yin) are comparable to those used in traditional media. Also the fact that crumbs are already "staining" Yang draws a trivial parallel to the most well known modern Tai Ji iteration of Yin and Yang where a element of the opposite is encompassed in both. The traditional Yin Yang did not have this encompassed component. While on first glance this interpretation is very reasonable I personally dislike it as it doesn't address the missing slices.) 2 Especially if we continue with the parallel that the pie is heaven one could conceptualize this as a way to include ideas of nihilism. The Pie which is seemingly perfect and complete is missing slices insinuating that whatever pleasure it offers is finite therefore the values it represents are in the end meaningless. For the sake of brevity I will cut it short here but rest assured that even values of the enlightenment and absurdism come into play in this masterful and thought provoking opening. In the next scene we see a slice of pie on a plate and the protagonist is carefully almost reverently using a spoon (not a fork as directors of lesser intellect would have used!) to cut off a piece. I shall not dive into too great a detail as there are truly endless ways to interpret this scene but I believe to truly appreciate the brilliance one has to dive deep into its rich storytelling without too much of a guiding hand so I shall only present my most favored interpretations. I. A easier interpretation that should be apparent to even a novice beholder is that the pie is a stand in for some arbitrary goal that brings happiness. This is a very upbeat and deliberate contrast to the last scene which as already mentioned contained elements of Nihilism (though should you cling to that interpretation you could see this as a futile glimmer of hope in a sea of darkness.) This very optimistic interpretation teaches us that even if our dreams are seemingly beyond the realm of possibility we can still achieve them if we strife towards them. The use of the spoon gives this scene another layer of depth to it as it now carries a almost egalitarian note. It is as if this scene wants to tell us "It simply doesn't matter what tools you have or who you start out as we all deserve and are capable to have a piece, a slice if you will, of happiness in our existence." The protagonist takes a moment to inspect the glory of his achievement the happiness that will surely be his before we fade to the next scene. II. However this is not the only way to interpret this scene and now maybe we should do as William Paley did in his deeply flawed Watchmaker analogy and consider the origin of this pie. It could be that the pie was made by someone else of course but it wouldn't be a sizable leap of logic to say that our protagonist is probably the creator of this pie. This brings to light facets of the relationship that a artist has with their work, one which history has shown to not always be positive. I confer to the reader the hypothesis that this as well as the last scene could portray a artist obsessed with the idea of perfection to the point where even a slight deviation from this inconceivable goal would be tantamount to utter failure. To the observer the cake looks wonderful but here the before mentioned spoon and inspection take on a different meaning. The spoon shows that the artist can't even bother to use the appropriate tool for their craft and the scrutinization is only a way for them to confirm the already present and ever rising feeling of dread the feeling that another failure is imminent. Then we come to the final scene our protagonist is revealed to us and all our interpretations are put to the test in this very moment. The blank face devoid of a immediate reaction serves to build up the tension, the Daoists will claim that even this pleasure must come with some sort of pain or at least apathy, the Nihilists will point to this moment as the second our main character realizes the emptiness of his dreams and the infinite drop as he must finally confront the abyss that is within us all and consumes us from within. Meanwhile the other interpretations I mentioned still hold true as we wait for our character to convey his feelings. In the end they nod their head and a sly grin appears. And while this might seem like a clear win for our most optimistic interpretation the eyes tell us another story. Their absent minded gaze does not convey the impression of great emotion in our protagonist so we are left to wonder were the Nihilist right? Or are there even more layers to this (you should see by now that with the genius of our director this is obviously the case) this could be a way to introduce social ideals in the very last shot. The need to act differently in the presence of society to conform and hide ones true convictions under a mantel of resignation shambling and slumbering aimlessly in a maze of conventions and expectations. Some philistines may claim that I am reading too much into this or that it is "only a video" do not let yourself be dissuaded by such dull minds for I tell you the opposite is true. This interpretation is if anything too short and simplified for the sake of the viewer not even scraping the true depth and emotional journey one undertakes while watching this video.

A poignant essay on the nature of this piece indeed, I found myself lost in thought, scratching my head at the depth of your interpretation that revealed the true provocative artistic intent of this controversial magnum opus by Sykes. From the Avant Garde to the post-modern, touching upon concepts from the orient elucidates even the possibility of Feng Shui being considered by the director in this masterpiece. A film that will be remembered by a generation, truly done justice by your expert critique. Thank you Dr. Reinhalter (BsC) (MPhil) (pdf) (jpeg)

@@razumihin3605 You are in fact quite observant to notice that a variety of cultural impulses are used to set up the scenes in this kubrickesque digital masterpiece. In fact one would be hard pressed not to argue that it is in fact one of the most ambitious and successful attempts of unifying all major cultures of the present and bygone ages into a harmonious accord. However I am flabbergasted, dare I say flummoxed, as to how you arrived at the conclusion that my critique is "expertly". The brilliance of this work exceeds this paltry attempt of conceptualization nay it even transcends any attempt to put the experience of "Key Lime Pie: The Return" into written form. In fact the brilliance of the composition itself gives wake to post modernist philosophy, the key idea being that in society things like oppression can only truly be understood if they are experienced by the observer. The indescribability of the video seems a kindred spirit to this idea. I believe that we must observe this video like Mortals watching gods play chess. In lieu of master erroneous patterns may emerge and some hold truer for longer then others but in the end they are all frivolous banalities when compared to the true incomprehensible purity we want to describe. A effrontery to some that literal criticism may no longer suffice to adequately prescribe meaning onto this world. But their ribaldry serves just as much purpose as the boisterous ruckus that philistines tend to cause when presented with unblemished admonitions of their friviolous understanding. Perchance.
