Hey, I need help as I’m new at this. I’m not sure what my audience is but from what you have shared. I think it’s hobbyist audience. I’m trying to look for a platform that I can also use aboard as well. Discord was my number 1 option as I’ve used it and love the system and I have used mighty networks too again love. I’m not sure on the other ones. I know discord is not opened to world wide as I travel a lot before London and turkey. My aim is to host events for my wellness community and have that chit chat women’s community. Is there any suggestions you may have ?

If you are hosting events, you might want a platform such as Mighty Networks. Their event integration is great.

@jonobacon A forum community for Autistic individuals to freely share and express life skills, stories, skills, and hobbies. We also want to provide Autism advisors that can be contacted through a live chat, to help individuals seeking advice or guidance in a particular situation. I have been working on the website for 3-months and have been using your guides to find my audience, content creation, and more. Thank you again for the educational videos and guides you have provided.

It is a comfort to see Mark Zuckerberg maturing as a leader of such an important national champion. His company is a strategic US asset and he increasingly understands his responsibility. I have a growing respect for him that he has been earning. He has learned much these last few years. He increasingly sounds like a proper CEO and citizen. What is helpful is he is involved and leading...even if you disagree with his policy you can respect his willingness to own his positions and articulate them in his own words. He could leave it to others to represent and defend his decisions. I have no idea if any of this is good or bad yet. What I like is is that Mark Zuckerberg is genuinely going to struggle with this -- he has stepped up to own it -- that's the best we can hope for.

In simplest terms, he is just appeasing to Donald Trump. Don't forget Facebook was the OG of helping spread misinformation and help Trump win. He is using freedom of speech as an excuse to promose MAGA talking point while actually censoring facts. He should simple come forth and admit the fact - he wants to boost MAGA propaganda.

Hi Jono, this is the best style - natural, but different styles work for different audiences! Also you create a quality product, but to be a client of yours, we need to be of a certain size and creating enough revenue to employ your company services, we are not there yet, but aspire to being able to afford direct engagement, until then the video's are a valuable assist in that process. For me in the early stages ( 600 members) monetisation is now key (if you are thinking of video content). Keep up the good work - and the guitar!

An honest and interesting review. You made a key point, which I would restate as, "All people want progress, all want justice, all want fairness. But whenever we push our idea as a demigod, we lose all ability to convince others of our ideas." If you truly want people to love strawberry topping on chocolate soft swirl, then you cannot convince them by saying, "So you only like vanilla with chocolate? You evil bastard! Banned!". The US Constitution very succinctly stated, "“Congress shall make no law...abridging freedom of speech.”, but left out the details needed. However, that amendment was as significant to a progressive society as the Magna Carta was which placed limits on royal authority by establishing law as a power in itself. So, the definition of the US amendment evolved through legal precedent, ensuring we can say critical things about elected leaders, but not allowing child pornography. As such, we may need time to develop the precedents which enable free speech/debate while protecting society on social media.

It is a joy to experience that chemistry and magic in action. It's hard to be a pioneer relentlessly cultivating and tending to your ideas and have to keep experimenting to generate the confluence of forces required to break through. I appreciate your work on this channel. I would love to see you growing but you might be against the odds considering what kind of topics and videos the majority of YT users prefers. Without click-bait and shameless exaggeration it might be difficult getting more attention. Posting about community building is still a niche topic - therefore the trees aren't growing into the sky. I registered my first business 50 years ago. One thing I learned during this time is "never giving up" so long you believe in your mission. I am quite interested in the field of community building but I am looking forward to your extended scope (content-wise). Please keep up the good work.

Hi Jono, This video was really interesting and helpful-consider this your free dopamine hit! But more seriously, it was genuinely insightful. I chose to watch your video because I’ve seen some of your previous videos, which is one of the reasons I clicked. The other reason was the title, which I found interesting. The title caught my attention because I’ve already watched some of your videos about building a community, and I’m very interested in starting my own. I knew you were the right person to learn from in terms of community building, and I also knew that KZbin can be a powerful platform for creating an audience. So, when someone who’s knowledgeable about something I want to do-building a community-asks, “Is this channel worth it?” it naturally sparks my curiosity. To be transparent, I don’t watch your videos as much as I do channels like Ali Abdaal’s or Ship30 for 30. However, you’re definitely on my radar when it comes to learning about community building. As someone interested in eventually starting my own community, I’m eager to learn about the ins and outs: what it takes to build a community, the best platform to host it, onboarding processes, and other key aspects. These topics seem to align with what you cover in your course, and that’s the primary reason I’d visit your KZbin channel. One channel I really enjoy, particularly because of the depth of their content, is Ship30 for 30, and I’d recommend checking it out. As for Ali Abdaal’s channel, I mostly watch his interviews with other creators and his advice on growing a KZbin channel. Overall, your video was engaging, and I believe the next step for your channel would be to continue focusing on creating content for people who want to build a community. It would also be interesting to include content that goes beyond the technical aspects-perhaps exploring the emotional or psychological sides of community building. However, since you’re already well-known as “the community guy,” it’s worth staying rooted in that niche. On another note, I was quite glad to hear you confirm the impact of even a “small” KZbin channel which then aligns with what other creators have been saying. I believe talking about your KZbin journey also from time to time as a channel to grow your business can be quite interesting. Best of luck for 2025, and I’m looking forward to your next videos!

This was fun Jono. mainly focused on build old sk00l fb groups at the moment, and it was pleasing to tick off many of these. The one I feel is missing (or at least, brushed over quickly in about tip 1/2/27/28) - which is to make new members feel welcome. If you think of communities as a marketing funnel (a sentence which will get me shadowbanned in many parts of the tech world!) lots and lots of communities drop off because they have a sweet branding, they have some good onboarding messages, and the person interacts in some way - perhaps asks a support question, and then doesn't get a response. Or worse, gets a response that's typical of stackoverflow. (SO has to be lesson in *some* community building anti-patterns - I can't explain how repeatedly unwelcome I felt there!). It's so so so crucial that the first 1-5 times a community member interacts, they have really positive interactions. After that, they'll discard that negative experience and attribute it to a bad apple. Usually in startup communities, this means there's a informal community manager who replies to *everyone*. The challenge here is that it doesn't easily scale, and building that community culture of welcoming newer members is doable, but not so obvious as something to bake in from the start. Eg. Just think how much easier $openSourceProjectSearchingForNewContributors would find it, if part of the projects mission and culture was explicitly stated as "help people make their first 5 open source contributions". -Tim (ex-Bytemark from LRL days if that name rings the old bells)
