I do not understand the need for hte 1A source exactly.. My DALE and BC analyzers provide 10mA to drive the resistance measurement. Where does the 1A necessity come from? Can you explain this please? I recognize this is some kind of IEC 60601 update or something. I cannot get any details on this as the IEC requires buying their standards package which I am sure will not answer the less technical questions on "Why". The IEC 601 evidently does not exist any more as when I look for it, I ma told to refer to the IEC 60601-1 2020. .. thanks if you can help..

Stan, we appreciate you subscribing to our You Tube Channel, and providing us your feedback on this video. Here is how we can best answer your questions... Resistance is measured by passing a known current through an unknown load and then measuring the voltage drop across the resistor. It isn’t a flaw in the SA-2000 series, just a design choice. The original design of the SA-2000 and the Dale safety analyzers use 10mA to measure the resistance. The CS-2000 increases that current to 1 amp. Sometimes it is desirable to place the ground circuit under stress to ensure that there is a good connection under a heavier load than 10ma. When more current is desired for the resistance measurement, the CS-2000 is needed. The 60601 standard calls for 25Amps to be used for testing ground resistance, which can be destructive and is usually reserved for the OEM of medical devices, not for field testing. Thank you. How and when is it desirable to apply 1A for measurement in equipment? I was told this was mandatory to apply the 1A source, but I do not seem to be able to find reference to this with the documentation I have. What does the 60601-1 actually say in their terms?

@@mrstanskaggs1 Hi Stan, The requirement for the 1A test current is based on the service manual of the device you’re testing. For example, the service manual for a LifePak20 specifies “perform the Protective Earth Resistance Test in accordance with IEC 62353”. IEC 62353 states: Device able to deliver 200mA in to 500mOhms and open circuit must not exceed 24V. IEC 61010 states: A current of 25A or 1.5 times the highest rated current of the relevent circuit, which ever is greater, from a current source with frequency of 50 or 60 Hz and with a no load voltage not exceeding 6V, is passed for 5 to 10s through the protective earth terminal, or the protect earth contact in the appliance inlet or the protective earth pin in the mains plug, and each protectively earthed part. So, if you’re an OEM and testing to 61010, you would need 25A. If you are doing routine maintenance, and 62353 is required, then you need a minimum of 200mA. If neither are specified, then the standard 10mA of the SA-2000 series is sufficient. We appreciate your feedback. We hope this helps to answer your questions. Thank you. Sincerely, BC Group International

Hello dear, does this unit operate with 220VAC input? Is the voltage at the output socket the same as the input socket?
@bcgroupintl

Thank you Leonel for your question. Yes, the voltage at the output receptacle is the same as the voltage that the SA-2000 series is plugged into. www.bcgroupstore.com/Search.aspx?k=SA&m=2
