what classification of rapids would you consider the tank hole, jack , queen and king? i live locally to this river and wanting to get into rafting and rowing.great Videos
@martinorlik
@martinorlik Ай бұрын
I don't know if they have an official classification but I would call them at least a class 3 to 3+. I'm certain at high water they become class 4 since all of them are significant drops and Jack, Queen and King are so close together and there is a higher risk for a very long swim. Oh yeah, and watch out for downed trees blocking the entire river. There were 2 of those last December. Stay safe!

Where do I put in and take out if I want to raft the upper Clackamas river?
@martinorlik
@martinorlik Жыл бұрын
Hole-In-the-Wall to Moore Creek when the river is under 1,200 cfs. Sandstone bridge to Moore Creek when the river is above 1,200 cfs. but most people prefer to run that section above 2,000 cfs. in a raft.

I made the mistake of running the lower clackamas, (Mclver to Barton) in a 4 person Star raft last week. Had to pick up raft 4-5 times to pull across rocks. I knew I over did it when I saw a guy with a pool floaty paddling with a broom next to me. Appreciate the reply!

@@jakethetank9760 The upper Clack is a fun run but keep in mind the video at the top of this page was from last year and the water was a lot higher then (1,300 cfs.) It's currently running at around 800 cfs. Both the upper and lower rivers are runnable all summer if you know the lines and yes they both offer plenty of places to get stuck. Also keep in mind the upper river is considerably more difficult. Here is a link to a video that shows the upper Clack at a level closer to what it's currently running. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIfLm6t4rJmqfMk

I built it out of 1" ethafoam. First piece is glued on and covers the entire dry box. The "U" shape is made out of 2 more smaller rectangles glued together, cut out the U and then glued on top of the first piece. Yeah, it really helps me stay in my seat. I purchased the ethafoam at Andy and Bax www.andyandbax.com but that was a while ago. Hope this helps.

Nice shot of the spawning salmon! Gone are the days when we used to run Killer Fang.... For 2 - 3 years a landslide downstream raised the water table in the rapid itself, allowing it to be run at moderate flows. It still was a good bit dicey with a significant amount of water going under the undercut and boulder sieve, and now looking at what was down there just makes me feel lucky that we escaped a couple near misses!

I am told by outdoor insurance company's the reason guide - charter company insurance is so high is what you see here stupid raft guides dunking clients or killing their clients. For us full time quality outfitter & guides we pay the price in Higher insurance because ass wipe rafting guides screw ups. I've noted over the years I can tell when a rafting guide is upriver from me just watching the beer cans and garbage floating by

Thanks but I did not R1 the whole thing. It was only my second time on this stretch of river. I lined my boat arround Drain Hole. I think that is the picket fence you mentioned. I also portaged the boulder chocked top part of Revenue then R2'd the bottom part with a friend. We got to run the rapid 2X.

Thanks! Hard to believe but I counted only 6 trips plus a couple of clips from a fishing trip in this video. I usually have more whitewater days in a "normal year". I also left the camera at home on several class 2 fishing trips. Yeah KZbin is a very good tool for video scouting. Just making my contributions to the cause. I bet the Clackamas will be a zoo for a wile after they open it.
